The article ‘predictors of abusive supervision’ describes the results of a research that was carried out to find the causes of abusive supervision in the workplace. The research was carried out at health centers. The motivation behind the study was that abusive supervision has several negative implications to an organization. Knowing the factors that cause abusive supervision helps to find out a way of eliminating this supervision method.
According to the research, there are three causes of abusive supervision. First, the dissimilarity between the employees and supervisors may motivate abuse. Second, the low performance of employees may make the supervisors to abuse such employees. When there is a conflict of relationship, there are chances that employees will be abused in the process of supervision.
The article has various limitations; in the first place, the article does not explain what is meant by abusive supervision. An individual may read the article but fail to benefit because the authors have not clearly explained their topic. People may be aware of the causes of abusive supervision in the workplace but fail to know exactly what this kind of supervision entails. The article could have been better if a good introduction with the necessary explanations was given.
The article used a few variables to make conclusions. The three variables investigated are not the only ones that could be leading to abusive supervision. The authors could have sought to investigate more variables to come up with a good conclusion.
The article cannot be applied in many organizations considering that the research was carried out in health centers only. It means that the only users of information are healthcare managers. The generalization on other organizations is difficulty considering that health centers are very different from other organizations.
Generally, the article has several flaws that make it unsuitable to many readers. However, it is of benefit to some organizations hence its importance cannot be understated. However, more could be done to improve the quality of the research and report.
