Since the beginning of trade humanity had financial inequality in the societies of all countries around the globe, and due to this fact more and more people would face poverty every day. 21st century in not any different, a gap between the rich and the poor is tremendous. Poverty is a dangerous thing, poverty brings people to desperation and desperate people are ready to do whatever it takes to survive. Unfortunately, teens that come from poor families tend to become outlaws at a very young age; many drop out of school, some are getting involved in the drug trafficking or simply can’t find a decent job to help themselves get a hold of their lives, but regardless to the personal discrepancies a vast majority of these people becomes criminals or join gangs. These people have nothing to live for and have nothing to lose, they are not used to work and the main idea they have is the idea of permissiveness.
Big cities are usually characterized by higher crime rates; drug abuse and underage crime statistics does not look very optimistic either. People in cities are extremely exposed to robberies, thefts and mugging. Due to the fact that people tend to walk or take public transportation more than in small towns, mugging still remains the issue. The conception of safety has now become a number one priority of the developed countries, government tends to do all in its power in order to assure the safety of its citizens, but nevertheless no one can be sure. In order to establish public security police is working 24/7, but we still suffer from crimes and felonies, therefore brining more weapons to the streets will only aggravate the current situation.
“People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf”
−George Orwell
I agree that our personal security starts with ourselves, but it doesn’t mean that you should run to the nearest firearms store and buy the biggest gun there; I mean that the nation should be me more conscious about the jeopardy that surrounds it.
Armed citizens isn’t the solution to violence, it is the main cause to it. Weapons give you power and unfortunately for most of the people the seduction of using it is too strong to refrain. Violence will only generate more violence which will lead to riots and chaos, therefore any kind of firearm should be registered and under strict control. Juridical system will hopelessly fail to keep up with the crime rates, when they soar.
Yes, I would feel safer with a weapon on me, but not at the cost of everyone around me having one. I would like to have people whom I care about and myself protected and if that means that one should carry a gun, so be it, but if considering a global picture I would rather have everybody unarmed, rather than carrying a firearm.
