As a leader in practice and partner in patient care, one is committed to excellence through adherence to high quality of standards in the delivery holistic patient care, as well as conformity to safety, as expected of the nursing profession. With greater emphasis on the health care reform, nurse practitioners are enjoined to develop theoretical knowledge, skills set, and health care experience through responding to urgent needs on a more global sphere . To meet the global challenges, nurse need to develop cultural competencies in meeting diverse health requirements of patients who come from varied cultural and geographic locations. Likewise, health institutions, especially the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) was revealed to initiate and promote evidence-based care. As disclosed, the AHRQ “leads national efforts in the use of evidence to guide healthcare decisions through funding of Evidence-Based Practice Centers that undertake systematic reviews on selected clinical topics” . Therefore, previous studies and clinical experiences which have been proven to be most effective enhance excellence in the delivery of health care. Finally, nurses are encouraged to continuously develop leadership skills through pursuing higher education . As emphasized, contemporary nurses have acknowledged the need “to advocate for reforms to improve the delivery of health care through quality nursing education” .
In retrospect, the frequent changes in the internal and external health environment; in conjunction with diversities of health care requirements from a wider range of clientele make the delivery of patient care more challenging. As such, these components: focus on global health, evidence-based care, as well as nursing leadership are acknowledged to be paramount thrusts in exemplifying commitment to excellence as a leader in practice and partner in care.
