Governing structure in Texas usually includes the executive officials, legislators and state judges. The government structure has been satisfactory to some extent following the relevance of the system being executed. That could be the definition of the good side of the governing structure. On the bad side, the governing structure may be unfavorable to some citizens thus denying all the members of the public an opportunity to enjoy the pride that should come with proper governance. Also, the structure may be defined as ugly if some of the initiatives by the government are not the most outstanding and attractive for the humans in the state.
Texas Democrats are highly involved in passing common-sense laws that would provide proper solutions for a better future for Texas. The legislators are working hard to ensure the hardworking Texans receive proper compensation in terms of salary. They are also pushing for funding of the neighborhood schools and bring accountability and transparency to state government. Also, the legislators focus on the protection of the vulnerable (Texas State Government at a Glance 2016).
The legislators are advocating for “Honest Day’s pay for an honest day’s work.” There are a number of bills by the Democrats to increase the minimum wage of the employees. The Democrats believe that the prosperous Texas will be built by hardworking Texans. Also, the Democrats are pushing for the coverage of the healthcare gap. The state must ensure that low-income earners can access proper medical coverage. The legislators must participate in the assurance for quality healthcare (Svitek & Langford, 2016).
Also, the state through the democratic legislators is bringing proper definition for accountability to state government. The legislators are working hard to streamline issues surrounding the contract scandals that had been witnessed before. Proper accountability systems are being set to ensure the government and the public participate in the execution of accountability for the government officials and contractors (Texas state directory, 2012).
Through the representatives Walle and Mary Gonzalez, the legislators are bringing the comprehensive school finance reform. The Texas school finance system has been broken, and they need to fix it. The bill aims at ensuring all the students have equal opportunities to succeed in education. Also, Democratic Representative Senfronia Thompson spearheads a bill to combat human trafficking. The bill seeks to protect the most vulnerable in Texas (Svitek & Langford, 2016).
The Bad
Texan Republicans continue to tipoff through the delivery of poor services. The legislators are focusing on negative elements that are likely to cause failure in the Texan government structure. They have denied Republicans civil liberties following their gender, disregarding public school funding and persecuting the minorities in the stat. Also, there are instances where the Republicans have attempted to price out hardworking Texas students form benefits of the higher education (Texas state directory, 2012).
Discrimination has been evident through the legislators. Senator Donna Campbell makes it legal for businesses to deny LGBT community members the business licenses. The law would be extremely harmful to Texas businesses. Also, the senator sponsor the private school vouchers, which take way public funding from public schools denying most of the public school students a good life through proper education (Svitek & Langford, 2016).
Also, Senator Charles Perry comes up with a bill on legalizing racial profiling. The bill marginalizes Latino and immigrant communities as well as destroying the trust that exists between the agents for law enforcement and the people expected to protect the law. The repeal of Texas Dream Act, which offers grants for tuition to students who cannot afford the tuition, is a selfish step that is likely to harm the American Society (Texas State Government at a Glance 2016).
It is also bad for women to denied preventative healthcare. The proposal by the Senate to cut funding from Texas breast and cervical cancer screening programs is an unacceptable action, which would drain the Texas state. The proposal is also meant to deny low-income earners affordable and paramount medical care.
The Ugly
The competition in the legislator is not in interesting in any way. The growth of the Tea Party causes fear and intimidation among the Republicans defining failure of the Texas state. There are more Tea Party Legislators working for the chambers as well as Dan Patrick, who is Lieutenant Governor of Texas. As a result, the Republicans have introduced a number of fringe bills. The bills are the proper definition of the ugly situation that the Republicans are setting for Texas State (Svitek & Langford, 2016).
The first bill is by Representative Lozano, who seeks to develop a drone program in the office of the governor. The bill seems irresponsible and impractical as it would create a confusing and poor administration of the people. The governor will not offer the services as required in his administrative capacity (Texas state directory, 2012).
Also, they have a bill proposing the gold and silver coins to be brought back as legal tender. Representative Tinderholt sponsors the bill, which seems impractical and inapplicable in the modern world. The move would complicate trade at a time when the business in the state should advance. Also, the propose that the federal law should not work in Texas, which is irrational thought and application of ideas as it is impractical and it may cause disfavor for the state from the nation (Svitek & Langford, 2016).
The governing structure of the state highly depends on the legislature, which forms the laws and executes governing strategies. However, through the presence of different parties; Republican, Democrat, and Tea Parties, the state government structure of Texas has its good, bad and ugly sides.
