A leader is an individual with ability and power to influence, inspire, and motivate people in a particular direction. Leaders of organizations set the vision and create a roadmap to achieve the goals of their organizations. For example, Alan Mulally, who is the CEO of Ford Motor Company is known to be a transformational leader because he has contributed to the success of the company by transforming various facets that previous leader failed to achieve. Leaders like Alan know how to set smart goals and mobilize resources in order to achieve those goals. They utilize their talents and innate understanding to leverage the potential of their teams in the accomplishment of their defined missions (Spears 28).
Whether I think I can be a leader
Considering the skills I have acquired both inside and outside the learning institutions, as well as my natural strengths, I tend to believe that I make a good and effective leader. My ability to coordinate group activities and to influence other group members to take my views on various issues is an indicator of the endowment of leadership qualities.
What I think about equal opportunity employment practices and whether they are always fair
The principle of equal opportunities employment practices requires employers not to discriminate employees due to their race, sex, religion, disability, gender, color, national origin or show any other form of discrimination. Various laws have been enacted to protect employees against discrimination to enforce the principle of equal employment opportunities (Darity and Mason 174). However, this principle does not hold in many organizations, and employees have often found themselves being discriminated against. For example, individual with disabilities are often discriminated in the workplace in the United States. They do not get equal opportunities in various aspects of life such as education and employment (Darity and Mason 161). Additionally, discrimination on the basis of socioeconomic status and race is prevalent in the corporate world where individuals from certain families are denied opportunities due to their low socioeconomic status irrespective of their qualifications. Thus, equal opportunity employment practices are not always fair.
