Why Are so many Americans in Prison?
A lot of people talk about human rights violation. However, do they really know what they are talking about? It is different crimes against people. It can be genocide, torture, slavery, rape and so on.
There were many crimes which made human’s life difficult. And, of course, all this made people cruel and rude and they started to break the law. As you know, we have to take responsibility for our actions, so many people were caught by police. However, the population in prisons became bigger and bigger because of it. With years, the number has changed, but it's still a lot of the inmates there, especially Americans.
Of course, it is logical to say that a lot of people make the crime that's why there is a lot of prisoners. And we know that teenagers in America become an adult too early, so they start the independent life without any knowledge about it. A lot of them lose their way and become offenders. But it’s not the biggest problem because the crime boom stopped and fewer people did offenses.
There are some theories about it. One of them about the war on drugs. Exactly to this problem policeman pay more attention. Punishment for this has to be less punitive and stop to impose long, harsh sentences on people who have committed relatively minor crimes.
And there is one last theory. Some think that exist problems with district attorneys. There is a thought that they sometimes use their power more that they have to. They can upset the human rights and people can get into prison without doing any crime.
It’s a pity and a big problem that many Americans are in prisons. I think if people in society become equal, it will help. Because now some persons feel dominant and try to make all for their happiness, even can do a crime. And people who less powerful want to have the sunshine in their life so make offence for this, for example, thieving. When the system of different class disappears, maybe population in prisons decrease. If people understand that they have to change their life for better, especially things which connected with laws and crimes, they will achieve this and make a big step to the better future.
