The finals sections of Embassytown include some fascinating events. The introduction of Ezra as a new Ambassador of the Bremer authorities to Arieka Ezra is the first person who is able to communicate with the hosts without a cloned twin. He is able to link two individuals in order to produce the Host’s language. Because the hosts are able to understand him, yet he is very different from what they have been accustomed to, he gained a lot of attention with the hosts.
The hosts began to become addicted to Ezra’s voice and words. There were attempts made to expand the host’s communication skills. They were a completely literal society and were incapable of telling untruths, using metaphors, or speaking sarcastically. There was one successful case of a host to be able to speak lies. This host has now become revered for his special abilities. Scile, however, is extremely upset at the fact that the hosts are being taught to lie. He believes that it is corrupting the goodness that once existed on Akira and was demonstrated by the hosts. He believes that the ambassadors are spreading their evil to the hosts through their use of language which is their main source of power and control. This is clearly demonstrated here, “the first time YIsib moved from you are like to you are the Ariekei started very visibly. That succinctly strange lie you are, born out of the truth, you are like, that they ‘d already asserted. And its contradiction, too, their enemies as like me as they were. We showed them how their own arguments came close to making liars of them,” (Mieville, 164).
More and more hosts slowly fall victim to addiction of the language and the society begins to crumble. The hosts supply basic living essentials to the humans. The relationship was falling apart, so the humans began manipulating the addicted hosts by controlling how much of the language they had access to. Some hosts realize the terrible direction their society is heading. Some hosts begin to mutilate themselves by making themselves deaf so that they are not allowed to hear the toxic words of the ambassadors any longer. They are now free from addiction but at the same time they are now unable to communicate. This has taken away all of their feelings and emotions and making them appear even less human. Avice makes an effort to unite the Ambassador, some hosts who are able to lie, and other people who understand the severity of the situation. During this union it is realized that obtaining the ability to lie is in actuality heightens one’s language ability which helps to break through a lot of barriers.
