In our rapid speed of life, stress seems to be an inherent part and an undoubted constituent. Being a student often appears to be immensely stressful, as well, as a great number of unexpected situations, different kinds of pressure, and general instability of life routine occur on the daily basis, adding up worries and anxiety that eventually grows into stress. I am sure that every student can write one's own memoirs on stressful experiences. Thereby this essay will focus on my personal experiences of encountering different types of stress and the ways I tries to handled them.
Acute stresses could be raised from a number of student-life situations like upcoming deadline, exams or especially demanding teachers or assignments, relations within the group or emerging unexpected situations. What made me relax and eliminate stress was usually music or a simple conversation with a friend in which I could speak all the problems out and then feel a great relief.
Chronic stress commonly appears on the basis of sleep deprivation or the present of a some constant factor-irritant which makes stress a regular attitude or even a habit. Breaking such circle is challenging, but more than possible – in my point of view, it could be done by taking enough attention to your health, such as getting a proper sleep, and changing the environment. Therefore while facing a long line of disappointments, anxiety and dismotivation, I commonly tend to take a day out for visiting another city or just changing the working environment by sitting in a cozy and relaxing café.
Anticipatory stress was the one which occupied me constantly because of the pressure of finding a future employment and uncertainty about the chosen specialization in study. How it could be coped is by developing positive thinking and staying hopeful about the future. This required a great training of mind and the control over emotions.
My methods of coping with stress were both adaptive and maladaptive ones. Adaptive methods include positive attitude and seeking social support, while maladaptive are looking for emotional support or mental avoidance. Even though maladaptive strategies are considered undesirable to address to, it is perceived by many as the easier solution or the action done by default, which I have often noticed myself. Thereby taking a close consideration into the strategies of coping stress is highly essential for its absolute elimination.
