Onboarding is the process by which new employees learn behaviors, skills, attitudes and knowledge required to be effective in an organization (Bieberstein & Lynch, 2005). The onboarding activity is important because there are some companies operating in similar lines but working with similar tastes. I happened to be working at the Medical Countermeasure System, and the onboarding system is as follows. A new employee will first meet the Operations Manager, who sits down with them not regarding their originality. The manager would then take the employees through MCS Employee Handbook. The handbook contains the organization’s chart, information regarding the building and the furnish government equipment, safety procedures, and the mandatory training guidelines. The manager has the responsibility of issuing the new employees with a building badge and an access card to use the company’s computers. After the introduction, the Operations Manager will then hand over the new employees to the administrative assistance. According to (Biro, 2012), managers should hold day-long forums with new hires to share out secrets.
There are some ways the organization can use to improve their onboarding process. They can create an avenue for the free interaction between the new employees and the other officials. Proactive and versatile employees seek feedback and build cordial relations with other people. They are always ahead of those who are inclined to their interests (Carpenter & Edrogan, 2009). They should also provide the new employees with information on other departments of the organization, the process of getting a Defense Travel System Account together with a Government Travel Card. The process should be the responsibility of a single individual in the organization. The relevant department should then train its employees. It will facilitate the subject matter expert SME to offer exquisite training to the employees along with putting a face to the name.
