• From your perspective, explain the role of nurse practitioners in clinical settings
It is also the role of the nurse practitioner to be a self-directed learner. With continued learning and professional development, clinical competency is maintained. Clinical competency brings satisfaction to patients. Aside from being learners, NPs are mentors and educators. They are also researchers and apply their findings to clinical practice.
The NP often acts as a primary health care provider and work in private practice with little to no supervision from physicians. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that an NP is organized and independent. An NP should also be an effective communicator. NPs work together with patients in a long term basis so communication is of utmost importance. A nurse practitioner is also a clinical collaborator. They collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, physical therapists, specialists and other health care providers responsible for the care of the patients.
