The three arms of government comprise of the legislature, executive, and judiciary. The House of Representatives and the Senate create the Legislature. The major role of the Legislature is to make laws that govern the state. Besides, the Legislature replaces and amends the old laws. In the legislative process, the bill is introduced to the Congress by one of the Congress members. After the introduction, the bill is further referred to committee where it is reviewed, here the bill is subjected to thorough discussion and amendments are made. The committee examines the flaws as well as the merits of the bill, and they may accept, amend or reject it. Upon committee approval, the bill it is taken to the Senate where it is debated, after the debate the Senators either approves or rejects the bill through voting (Richmond, 2014, p. 12). After Senate's approval, the bill is reported to the Congress. The Congress members subject the bill to debate. Congress members can either reject or accept the bill. If the bill is approved on the floor of both the Congress and the Senate, then it is taken to the President. The president can either approve or reject the bill. In the case of approval, then the president signs the bill into law.
The executive enforces the laws that legislature enacts. Similarly, the executive is responsible for the smooth running of the government. The executive has the authority to dissolve or to adjourn the legislature. Furthermore, the executive formulates and executes government policies (University of Notre Dame, 2008, p. 16). The judiciary is concerned with justice administration within the state. Therefore, the judiciary ensures that the constitution is respected. Ideally, the judiciary guards the Constitution. In short, the judiciary interprets the constitution, laws, and statutes (Richmond, 2014, p. 15). The judiciary ensures peaceful coexistence within the state by hearing and making decisions on disputes. In particular, the judiciary makes the law if the existing laws are confusing or conflicts with other laws. The judiciary acts as an advisory body to the federal government.
