Examining criminals and victimization
What two theories do you think would be most helpful in understanding the crimes of the author's bogeyman?
Rational choice theory
Social structure theory
Are there elements that we still need to know to formulate a better understanding of the bogeyman's behavior?
The social heritage of the bogeyman is particularly important in determining if there has been a criminal manifestation in their lineage. While crime remains a decision, it can as well be acquired from a criminal lineage. Some might find it very attractive when there is evidence within the family hierarchy of successful criminals.
The socio-political environment at the time of committal would help the upheavals that could lead offenders into pedophilic manifestation. There is the need to understand the political and social situation of the bogeyman at the time of crime committal. The economic circumstances could be stressful thus frustrating.
How does the chart above reveal failures in the justice system? How do these failures impact report rates?
The justice system has cleared so written off many crime reports thus making it difficult to trust the criminal justice agencies. It is evident from the chart that many crimes are removed through a complicated process that might be hard for the victims to comprehend. Consequently, they remain reluctant on such matters. Such failures make it difficult to report the cases since it is coupled with a multiplicity of complexities. Many victims do not find it safe to say especially those with a criminal background. Others also find fruitless to report when they consider the crime in question insignificant and valueless to them.
Discuss reasons why victims of sexual violence do not report a crime. What reasons did the author give for not telling anyone about his victimization?
Victims often state the fear of punishment by their offenders as the main reason why they keep silent. According to the victim, it is clear that the bogeyman used threat and poured cold water on the incident. The victim alleges that the offender installed a perceived no-welcome attitude from the parents if he had reported the case.
If someone came to you with a similar experience as the author's, would advise him or her to report their childhood victimization as an adult?
Yes. I would encourage the victims to clear their conscience by shaming the devil. It is important that such people are reported and put under security monitoring so that the course of justice can take place and avoid further escalation of his victims.
