The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang Theory is a sitcom that is focused on five main characters. These characters are Sheldon Cooper, Leonard Hofstadter, Penny, Howard Wolowitz, and Rajesh Koothrappali (TBBT 1). Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, and Rajesh (Raj) are intelligent geeks. Penny is a regular blonde who does not understand the level of intelligence displayed by the other four characters. The five characters bring different styles to the sitcom so as to make it comical.
Sheldon is an annoying friend who sees himself as superior to the other characters. He identifies himself as a unique species that has been sent to guide mankind towards great wisdom and intelligence. However, he fails to understand sarcasm. Leonard is Sheldon’s roommate and is the only one who can manage to live with him despite Sheldon’s annoying attitude.
Howard lives with his mother and is constantly referred to as mummy’s boy. He is obsessed with watching his weight and constantly working on his sexual appeal. Raj lives alone and is an expert in culinary services. He likes cooking different recipes and displaying feminine behavior. Penny is a pretty blonde who lives opposite Sheldon and Leonard. She possesses social skills that the four men lack.
Sheldon uses a domineering strategy to get his way. Sheldon always gets his way and the other three men have to follow his lead. They figured that it was useless to argue with him because he would take them in circles until they did what he wanted. Sheldon’s strategy worked because of his personal traits. His personality is so annoying such that the other characters find it easier to do what Sheldon wants so as to avoid a long debate. However, Sheldon has a sweet side about him and the other characters find it hard to abandon him. They even miss him when he is not around.
Scandal
Scandal is a political thriller TV series that revolves around Olivia Pope. She works as a lawyer who owns her own firm. Olivia also works at the White House and is responsible for managing crisis (ABC 1). She advises the president on what to do when faced with a difficult situation. President Fitzgerald Grant III puts all his trust on Olivia’s judgment and can follow her advice even when he is not sure whether it is the best move. Olivia’s weakness is that she has a relationship with the president and is in love with him. The president also loves Olivia, but he is married and cannot risk his presidency because the whole nation is relying on him. The president wants to be with Olivia, but she advises him that it is not the right move for him. She tells him to put the nation ahead of their relationship.
Olivia has a strong personality that makes her get her way. She is authoritative and makes the people under her leadership to do as she bids. Olivia is intelligent and makes calculated decisions even if they do not favor her own needs. She was able to convince the president to forget about her and focus on the nation even if it hurt her feelings. Her authoritative nature and selflessness enabled her to end her relationship with the president. She was also able to defy her father because he was mixed up with some illegal activities.
