French Cuisine
In a world, where there are so many cuisines, there are dishes that even with such a rich variety of flavors and cooking methods are considered exotic. According to Bhatia, ten most exotic foods from around the world include Carzu Marzu on the first place of the list, Monkey Brains on the second and Live Cobra Heart on the third. To try or at least order these dishes you need to be an absolute Braveheart because Carzu Marzu, which is an Italian dish, is a type of sheep milk cheese, which has “live insect larvae” in it, that are supposed to “give the cheese a unique taste and soft, gooey texture”. Monkey Brains is another challenge for your stomach and nervous system, because according to Peng (2012), health consultant & writer, this dish is made from a real live monkey, whose skull is being broken with a hammer and brains are removed from a live monkey just on your plate. Live Cobra Heart, which belongs to Vietnam’s cuisine, according to Natasha (2015), means consuming a beating heart of a cobra, literally. The cobra is being beheaded, her blood is being poured into the glass and after the cobra’s heart is being taken from her, chef puts it in front of you on the dish and offers you to eat the heart. How many people, so many dishes. To try exotic cuisine, it is not necessary to eat brains of an alive monkey that looks at you while dying; you can just go to France and eat something besides burgers and fries. French cuisine is considered exotic, and sometimes gourmet as French dishes, such as ratatouille or coq au vin, are considered to be elegant in the selection of quality of products and excellence in the cooking process. About the classic ratatouille recipe Jamie Oliver, a celebrity chef, says: “super-healthy, hearty supper for any night of the week” and it is so, because the dish is worth trying. Jamie Oliver also has an opinion about the coq au vin dish and it it very short but eloquent: “my favorite recipe ever”. There is no doubt that this dish is worth trying too, because Oliver owns 50 restaurants and he knows what he is talking about. Whatever it was, humanity always stands on the threshold of culinary discoveries and the opportunity to try something new, including exotic cuisine. It makes us who we are – the people.
