I am sure that in order to become successful in any professional field it is necessary to identify clear goals and find the best place to realize them. I am happy that I understood this simple truth in time to do everything possible to make my dreams come true. I would like to describe the way my professional goals were formed and how I understood that Georgetown is the best place for me to do it.
Still, when I went to my violin lesson the next day, I noticed that every time I tried to strike a note with the injured finger, it just couldn’t reach the fingerboard. I understood that it was never good when I couldn’t bend some part of my body, so I told my father what happened. We went to the doctor to hear that I cut my flexor digitorium profundus, which is a tendon. Before the injury it allowed me to bend the top part of the finger and play my violin. Now the only way to get this capability back was to undergo surgery. I could not explain why, but I was excited with its prospect. I went to You Tube website to see what my surgery would look like and I was absolutely fascinated about what was going to happen to my finger. After watching that video I just knew that I wanted to become a surgeon. The medical profession fascinates me, because it is not only challenging, but also saves and improves people’s lives.
I want to go to such a university where I can fulfill my goals of becoming a doctor and at the same time enjoy the process. I know that this task is not easy to perform, but I think that with the right guidance there is nothing impossible for me. Thus, when I was looking for the right variant, I tried to find exceptional academics and great research opportunities in the scientific field, friendly environment, and exciting student life. I believe that Georgetown University is the most appropriate place to help me achieve my goals. When I visited it for the first time, I immediately fell in love with the place. First, I was stunned with the gorgeous campus. Do other universities have such nice campuses? Of course, some of them do, but there are just a few that can boast of the outstanding location Georgetown has, which is only a couple of miles from downtown Washington D.C, where there are tremendous opportunities for internships at prestigious institutions. I would love to take advantage of the proximity to the city and reap the benefits of its cultural diversity. I do love science, but being part of a school located near the White House, where the history of the nation started, is really thrilling.
When visiting the campus, I went on a tour and the guides, who were Georgetown students, answered all my questions. They explained everything in miniscule detail and on the whole it was easy to tell that they were really happy to be there. At Georgetown I could not find even one person who was not smiling, which put me in a positive mood. The tour guide explained the student life, describing intramural sports, clubs, and the division I athletics. After the tour was complete I went to the Gaston Hall and took a look inside. It sent shivers down my spine when I was in the hall, as it was even hard to imagine that I was in the same room where the most influential people in the world, such as Barrack Obama and Bill Clinton, delivered words of wisdom. I want to become a part of the effervescent community, as I particularly loved the way Georgetown was not trying to fit its students in one dimension, but instead the staff is focused on enlightening and educating a person as a whole.
I also attended an information session in my area. I was able to see the prominent and successful Georgetown alumni who conducted the interviews. In there I learned that once you became a Hoya, you stayed a Hoya for the rest of your life and you could start a legacy. I met Dr. Riggs who graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1959. He served his local and the Georgetown community for more than fifty years and I hope to do the same when I graduate from the university.
After the tour and information session, I knew that Georgetown was the perfect place for me. It has excellent academics and is considered to be one of the top universities in the country. It has friendly faculty and staff who are always cheerful and willing to help. It offers a thrilling student life and makes everyone feel as if they belong there, no matter who they are and where they came from. Georgetown offers a unique opportunity to study in a great environment and lets people realize their full potential.
