It is evident from the case that the teacher did not set clear goals and objectives of the lesson(s) such that the learners could relate or appreciate the entire course. Palmer (n.d) suggests that a teacher needs to device specific learning objectives and communicate the expected behavior during the lessons. Moreover, it is advisable to make the class format lively, engaging, and informative to the learners. Zaguan seems bored by the teacher, and this indicates a non-creative and engaging approach that makes the entire lesson boring. As a result, some of the students may lose interest to engage and may over-react.
It is also evident that Zaguan does not feel like he matters in the class. He noted that the teacher does not listen to him an indication that he does not feel special or loved by the teacher. For this reason, the teacher can change the mode of approach towards Zaguan and the entire class. The teacher needs to listen attentively and seek the opinion of the other students concerning Zaguan's assertions and strive to know what caused the problem. Each learner needs to know that they can approach the teacher even with the weirdest concern and still get the attention of the teacher.
Moreover, the teacher needs to use contemporary examples, and link them to the students’ lives. The teacher needs to provide the salient details that are not apparent from the lesson and make relevant connections to make the issues interesting. It is also important that the teacher remains genuine regarding the feelings of the learners and avoid any racial issues or potential discrimination in the process of teaching. Being sensitive to the issues that affect the social and economic aspects of the students especially injustices and oppression can help handle Zaguan and make him fell part of the team.
