Criminal justice administrators are all the personnel involved in the administration of justice in the justice system of the United States. The criminal justice administration is a wide field which involves many personnel who cooperate together in delivering and dispensing justice in a fare and just manner. The process starts from the cops who are involved in arresting law-breakers to the judges who impose sentences and fines to the law-breakers. There are many ethical issues involved in the administration of justice by the criminal justice administrators. This is rampant when the victims are politicians and other powerful people. First, there is a growth of consensus between the attorneys and the politicians to limit the judgment of the criminal justice system. By so doing, there is laxity among the judges, magistrates, and the police to cooperate in dispensing justice to the citizens. Furthermore, most criminal justice personnel are either appointed by politicians or at list, the politicians have some influence on their appointments. In addition, politicians are ganging against the court systems citing protection of the citizens from the excesses of the government authorities. The judicial system, although independent, has to rely on the other arms of the government (Executive and legislature) for funding and other needs. To receive the above, the administrators are forced to cooperate with the politician’s wishes and calls. Political interference is one of the biggest ethical challenge facing criminal justice professionals. Another ethical matter faced by administrators is frequent bribe attempts from the politicians and other wealthy personnel in order to influence the outcome of a case. Most judges throughout the world face the enticing challenge of accepting huge amounts of bribes in order to favor the giver in a case. For instance, in Kenya, a judge of the supreme courts is alleged to have been bribed with $2 millions in order to favor one party in a gubernatorial election petition.
The unspoken expectation of the police to arrest people may also result to ethical shortcuts. The police personnel are always expected to arrest the law-breakers at all times. The pressure mounted on them may result to false implication by the police on some individuals. For instance, a police may not give a sobriety test to a person suspected of drunk driving. Instead, they write a report and implicate the person that he was drunk driving. The same case happens in the slums suburbs where the police roam around arresting anyone they come across. These challenges are ethical and should be challenged. Besides, the judges and magistrates should ensure that there is sufficient evidence to connect a person to the crime they are associated with. Failure of the administrators to challenge the practices will make the law enforcement officers to see the actual distortion and rights violation as a lesser evil. Therefore, the police should try to balance the pressure they face and the need to be practice ethical practices. Another ethical challenge faced by administrators is sentencing a friend or a relative. They court system personnel, like any other person, have friends and relatives. These administrators are driven by integrity. When a friend/relative of the administrator is found on the side of the law, sometimes the professional is tempted to alter the law in order to favor their friend/relative. This is a wrong practice because they make an oath to be fair and just when practicing the law. Sometimes the administrators are made to provide a ruling on a case in which the defendant is their secret lover. Like any other human being, it would be difficult for them to give the right judgment in this case. It is clear that court system administrators face a number of ethical challenges when determining the course of action. The challenges normally are caused by corrupt politicians and other wealthy and influential citizens.
