Reflection
Question One
Northouse (171) describes a constructive climate as an atmosphere, which contributes to the satisfaction of the group members as well as attainment of their individual best. An effective leader succeeds in establishing this type of climate. Creating a constructive climate calls for such a leader to promote standards of excellence, provide structure, build cohesiveness, and clarify norms (Northouse 171-172). On promoting standards of excellence, I am in the high range since I scored 23. On providing structure, I am also in the high range as my score was 24. I am also in the high range in building cohesiveness since my score was 20. However, on clarifying the norms, I am in low-moderate range as my score was 13. Consequently, I am strong in promoting standards of excellence, providing structure, and building cohesiveness but weak in clarifying the norms.
Strengths
As a leader, I always promote standards of excellence, inspire the members of my group to work to the best of their capabilities and acknowledge them when they do a good job. Besides, I often provide them with honest feedback regarding their work and demonstrate to those who do not perform well the way to enhance the quality of their work. Familiarizing the teams and individuals with what is anticipated using the effective performance appraisals facilitates the achievement of the outcomes (Susanbuseducation N.p). Ideally, as the group leader, I achieve my goal of providing the members with candid feedback because I make them understand what I expect before assessing them. I always provide the group members with clear assignments, make our goals as a group clear to all of them, stress the overall purpose of the assignment to all of them, and help each one of them understand his/her roles. Besides, I often help the members comprehend their purpose for being within the group. I often encourage the members to appreciate the significance of the whole group, listen and respect one another, show respects towards one another, accept one another as unique people, and help them create camaraderie with one another.
Weaknesses
Nonetheless, I sometimes emphasize beginning and ending the group meetings punctually and model the group norms for the members. Additionally, at times, I exhibit effective communication to the members, encourage them to agree on the group rules, and expect them to listen when a fellow member is talking.
Action
Question Two
The three values, which are important to me in a group include commitment, hard work, and truthfulness. I would demonstrate my commitment to the members through giving my energy and time to the success of the group. Additionally, I would demonstrate my hard work to them by working with energy and dedication in all my tasks. Lastly, I would demonstrate my truthfulness always by being sincere with the group members and myself.
