The study has been conducted to look at plagiarism in general and how the majority of students often plagiarize, intentionally or not, their tutors’ ideas. However, the conclusions drawn by the researcher who wrote the article suggest that eliminating the students’ need to plagiarize at all could solve the issue.
Literature Review
World Book Online was used for the purposes of completing the study and copying the article. Although similar studies have been conducted earlier by other researchers, it does not diminish the importance of the content. Hamalainen (2007) suggested that the only requirement to satisfy the need for research was to gather correct information and put it together. Bloom’s taxonomy was used to affirm that as far as it concerns knowledge and comprehension, students are often caught with plagiarism.
Discussion
Hamalainen stated that students need to gather and share important information concerning their actual research. However, it might appear hard for some of the teachers to come up and structure assignments differently than they were used to, in order to reduce the instances of student plagiarism. One of the solutions calls for presenting assignment to the class that asks to make an argument to win the reader’s attention and persuade the audience. In such a case, the students would more likely research the topic by themselves and come up with distinctive ideas. Formulating and supporting arguments from actual research is what drives students to think independently.
Conclusions
Media center is an ideal place for doing research among other options available within an academic environment. Citations and rough drafts are to be used for research to support important facts and statements. Practicing and revising while doing research is another recommendation for a successful implementation of the project.
