The latest news story and what has been given global focus is the Orlando Pulse Club mass shooting that claimed 49 lives, and 53 people left with varied levels of casualties. Omar Mateen masterminded the attack, and his motive was read as the ISIS insurgence against the West Nations. Details have also emerged that Mateen’s wife was in his company hours before the incident occurred. CBS also assessed the gunman’s timeline and showed his frequent activity on the social media before and during this horrific ordeal. Moreover, other details have emerged that Mateen pledged allegiance to the Islamic extremist groups, ISIS prior to the shooting. Another traceable record of communication regarding the attack shows that Mateen made calls to the 911 as well as the television station regarding the ongoing shooting. In yet another correspondence revealed by the CBS, Mateen was noted to have texted her wife hours before the shooting began.
The Orlando Shooting incidence is related to the conflict theory, which is postulated to enumerate an understanding of war, poverty, wealth, revolutions, among other forms of social strife. According to this theory, a society is so unstable, and is in a constant conflict and competition for limited resources, which are overstretched due to the unlimited demands by people. Principally, conflict theory delves so much on the resource predisposition, and the conflicts of haves and has nots, and how different regions feel underpinned by perceived wealthy and superior regions. Power and struggle for authoritative dominance are the two unfolding facts about conflict theory, and the rage ensues for a significantly longer duration.
There is a connection between the news story and the conflict theory. The advent of this heinous attack is attributed to religious and regional difference between the USA government and the ISIS. This military group is condemned due to its inhumane attack targeting innocent civilians due to their religious or ideological positions that differs with the sharp ideologies held by this extremist group. Therefore, the connection between this attack and Orlando is as a result of conflict between the USA and the ISIS terror group.
