Introduction
Lennox is a company under the Lennox industry that manufactures air conditioner products. The air conditioners have for a long time experienced the problem of excess noise during use. Noise is the main problem that has made the products of Lennox be rejected by most customers (Afuah & Tucci, 2012). The improvement of the efficiency of the product will increase the value and the competition of the product in the market. Many people have had a negative attitude towards the products because of their noisy nature. Therefore, this report intends to improve and increase the efficiency of the air conditioners by reducing noise level as well as speed.
Problems
In addition to noise, Lennox also faces many problems that have been a concern to many customers. The noise level should be reduced by producing more efficient and silent products (DeLuca, 2006). Also, the high-velocity air conditioners have a high speed that makes them uncomfortable for use.
Methodology
Some of the instruments that are used to measure the noise include meter levels, a dosimeter and octave analyzers (Hao et al., 2008). The steps include evaluation of the noise instruments and calibration, using the sound level meters to identify the degree of elevated noise and where the dosimeter would be performed, using octave analyzers to determine the control feasibility for the source of noise, using the dosimeter to measure the level of sounds. Experimental design is the best design to use to determine the noise level by allocating the air conditioners under different working conditions.
Calculations Applications:
Formulae for Lq, Lx, Time and Dose of Noise
D = 100.0 x T/8.0 x 10.0(Leq-85.0)/0.01
Lq = 10 log10 ({Dose/100.0) x (8/T}) + 85.0 dBA
Lx = 10 log10 (Dose/100.0) + 85.0 dBA
Lx= 10 log10 (T/8.0) + 85.0 dBA
Calculations for average sound levels
Lm = (L1 + L2 + L3 + + Ln)/n
The Sampling of the air conditioners
The statistical techniques are used to reduce or minimize the level of noise that the air conditioner will produce. In this case, different Lennox air conditioners must be sampled randomly. The size of the samples needs to depend on the level of use of the Lennox. For example, the target accuracy is approximated at the range of ± 2.0dB and the variation between the times of exposure and the confidence level is determined at 0.95.
The Dose of the Noise
The level of the noise is given at an acceptance level of 100%. The dose of the noise is determined by the exposure of the noise.
Hypotheses
Ho: The difference of noise of the high-velocity conditioner and the low-velocity conditioner is not statistically significant.
Ha: The difference of noise of the high-velocity conditioner and the low-velocity conditioner is statistically significant.
Ho: The difference of the speed of the high-velocity conditioner and the low-velocity conditioner is not statistically significant.
Ha: The difference of the speed of the high-velocity conditioner and the low-velocity conditioner is statistically significant.
