Introduction
This is a business plan worksheet for Making A Way Housing, Inc. (MAWH), which is a non-profit making organization that intends to provide shelter for the homeless. Some strategic issues need to be addressed, and an implementation and recommendation team needs to be set-up based on certain criterion.
Strategies to be implemented and Actions to be taken in implementing
Long-term financial stability
Based on worksheet 2, the organization does not have adequate funds for expenses and the budget is always in the negative. The organization has however set in motion plans to ensure long-term financial stability. The first action will be; the organization will rely majorly on donations from the government and well-wishers to fund their projects. Sponsors will be sought to fund projects since MAWH is a non-profit making organization. Secondly, the organization will rent houses cheaply to the public who cannot afford the present rent costs. This will provide a steady income flow for the organization.
Meeting community’s demand for services
The organization’s main goal is to provide housing to the homeless due to financial constraints or other non-financial related causes like those recovering from substance abuse, mentally ill or infected with HIV and AIDs. MAWH plans to achieve this in two phases. The first phase will be by providing houses at cheap costs, to the general public. This will eliminate the issue of those homeless because of lack of enough finance to afford the current housing facilities. The second phase will be by providing houses to those who are recovering from substance abuse, are infected with HIV and AIDS or have been hit by calamities, at no cost at all. The organization plans to build standard and good quality homes to house at least 75% of the homeless people.
The organization will also provide shelters through establishing housing centers in every state, in case the first plan does not meet demand.
Staffing
MAWH being a non-profit making organization lacks adequate funds to recruit and maintain qualified staff or train the existing staff. The organization, therefore, relies on volunteers to run the organization. The organization has, however, a great Volunteer Base from which they can easily get the staff to run the organization. Donor funds obtained may be used to train these staff and even recruit more qualified ones.
Support from Board of Directors
The board of director is among the external stakeholders of MAWH Inc. The board currently does not understand their function and therefore need training before they can be passionate about the organization’s projects. The board can be interested if they are actively involved in the decision making and evaluation of the projects undertaken by the organization.
Organizational Units/Groups to be involved in implementation
The organizational units required for implementation of the MAWH strategies are; the research and development department, the planning department, Accounting and Finance Department ("Strategy Implementation - organization, levels, system, advantages, school, model, company, business, system", 2016), top management, donors and the employees at all levels.
The involvement of everyone in implementation will make them own the strategies and the implementation process is triggering successful implementation.
Organizational Functions to be Represented
Successful implementation of any strategy requires good communication in the whole organization regardless of communication channels adopted (Brinkschröder, 2014). The other organizational functions to be represented are; finance, IT, human resource and top management. Communication is important to relay messages, communicate functions and strategies ("Strategy Implementation - organization, levels, system, advantages, school, model, company, business, system," 2016). Finance is in charge of funding the strategy implementation process, and IT will be useful in setting up the most modern standard homes to be built. The human resource is the key driver to the whole strategy formulation and implementation, without which, no functions can be carried out in an organization.
