Fascism is the theory that believes that the nation stands superior . The problem with this theory is in believing in the superiority of the nation even when it is not great and going to the extent of oppressing anybody who doesn’t believe in the said version. The Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump has made many controversial remarks that makes one think if he is a fascist. Dr. Lawrence Britt gave a number of characteristics of fascism and we can find most of them in Donald Trump. Firstly, he keeps emphasizing the idea of patriotism where he talks about making America ‘great’ again. He wishes to achieve this by eliminating non-Americans from America because he sees them as a threat, which according to Britt, is another feature of fascism. He has no regards for human rights as he declared that he would pay legal fee for a person who was accused of physically assaulting a protestor at Trump’s rally . He has an obsession with national security that cannot be justified. In his one speech, he declared that America must have a complete ban on Muslim migrants as they are filled with hatred. To make wild assumptions like that and impose laws based not on facts but on stereotypes is not going to help in making America great. Trump believes in inciting hatred in the hearts of people and winning them by unifying them against a non-existent enemy, which is defined by Britt as a characteristic of fascism. Trump’s remarks and ideologies are therefore quite similar to those of the fascist regimes this world has seen.
