Seattle in Washington, USA, may have come home to several persons across America and the world, in fact, through the little glimpses and aerial shots that we get during Sondra Rhimes’ Greys Anatomy, or made a household name because of Sleepless in Seattle, but for me Seattle is truly home. For me, Seattle is more than the upwardly mobile young people who sip coffee and appear to be talking about changing the future; it is more than its reputation of being a place of rain; it is more than the memory of Gary Payton, Sean Kemp and George Carl of now defunct SuperSonics fame; and it is more than the Space Needle that has become a staple of all things Seattle. Seattle is home. For me that means freaking my best friend out by swinging on the rope swing in Fremont and jumping off the defunct bridges in Montlake, just because.
Seriously though, if you’d like to visit Seattle, and want something more that the traditional tourist spots, I would recommend the Waterfall Garden Park in Pioneer Square, which was by the original home of the United Parcel Service. It is a great place to take a picture. Also, there is a troll in Fremont created out of old car parts by some artists that is really creepy neat to look at. It is located down under the Aurora Bridge on North 36th Street. Another cool thing is a bicycle stuck in a tree significantly above the ground in the nearby Vashon Island forest. This is a must see. The rocket in Fremont on North 35th Street is also a cool sight to see. It is a 1950’s rocket fuselage that was previously in Bell Town on the top of AJ Surplus.
I also like the fact that the mountains are close enough to go to for hiking and such the like. They are also beautiful just to look at especially at night. There is also the Walker rock garden; the Gum wall, whether you think that’s disgusting or gooey; the museum of glass in Tacoma, my favorite place in Seattle, and the Seattle Pinball Museum. My favorite place to visit in Seattle though is the beach at Marine View Park in Normandy. I don’t go there for the beach, I go for how it makes me feel. I love the thrill of hiking down the hill, and the quaint steps, and the sand.
Overall, Seattle has several attractions that the Chamber of Commerce will tell you about, but for me these are the best.
