As far as the students are concerned, the life at a university campus is extremely important for them. Most importantly, this life has a strong impact on the student’s future and professional career. It is no secret that the educational environment in the college or university is really helpful for a student to select the right career. In the same connection, campus discussions and related participations play a great role in the student’s campus life. Such associations and deliberations allow students enjoy their campus lives. Therefore, the universities should allow the groups with no affiliation with the university to access university campus to increase the interest of the students and make them engaged in extra-curricular activities, to encourage conversations between different groups of students, and to give students the opportunity to practice discipline while engaging in multifarious activities.
Above all, discussions held at university campuses and participating in them increase the interest of the students. The students of the contemporary era find it difficult to maintain focus and attention in the class while the professors deliver lectures. A good question can increase their concern, make them doubtful, motivate them to think, and prompt them to relate with the content. However, campus discussions help each student to hear another voice, various answers, and point of views. Participations allow students to gain more information. The benefits of discussions amplify with more participation. Mr. Mohammed Saud, a graduate in Political Science major, states: “public discussions in the university campus keep the students interested and engaged. In my experience, it helped me a lot as I understood more things easily”. He further states that he studies a major that has enough possibility for public discussions. Hence, it is rather significant to allow the groups with no affiliation with the university to come to campus to hand out literature, hold public discussions, etc.
Circulating literature and holding public discussions in the university campus encourage conversations among the students. With the organization of such activities, the students are enabled to comment on other students’ opinions and beliefs. Usually, there is a question-answer session wherein the students are invited to discuss possible answers with each other before the public discussion. Such participations help in the development of important speaking skills. Mr. Khalid Alwaleedy, a senior business man who attained a graduate degree in Business Management and runs a successful business, says: “Campus discussion and participation are really great! They helped me to cater my clients effectively. In many professional situations, people need to speak before a group. They have to give out information, ask questions, or argue for the resolution of various issues. I acquired excellent speaking skills and got the courage to meet people without any hesitation due to such discussions in the campus”. His positive words evidently prove that allowing the literature handouts and holding public discussions in the university campus is extremely beneficial for students.
Finally, handing out of literature and holding public discussions in the university campus gives students the opportunity to practice using the language of the discipline. Literature hand outs give students the chance to practice using various vocabularies. Mr. Ahmad Sultan, a senior software engineer in a reputed firm, states: “Campus discussion and participation provides the students positive feedback. It helps them when the teachers ask questions or else seek student input over a topic; the students can contribute certain ideas and information. It helped me to find solutions in my career easily. It gave me confidence to think over a topic”. His statement describes the importance of public discussions in the campus.
In conclusion, campus discussions and participations enlarge the interest of the students and make the students engaged. Campus discussions help students to gain knowledge and exchange information. It also helps the students coming to the class prepared for the instructor who frequently ask questions about the assigned readings or previous class sessions. The interviews I conducted helped me to understand the real scenarios at a college or university.
If university campuses let outsiders (students, academic groups, intellectuals, etc.) distribute handouts, conduct surveys, hold discussions, and organize similar activities, everyone can benefit. The universities must also allow outside students to amalgamate with the students at campuses. Such a union can result in a coherent and harmonic association between students belonging to different institutions and share their educational and social experiences. Classrooms are not the sole places to learn. Campuses can also prove to be one of the best platforms where students can learn and attain wisdom to lead their personal and professional lives.
