Education for a successful and fulfilling life
Education nowadays is both obviously important and extremely doubtful. This statement won’t even raise confusion among people because it is true. Today young people all over the world do not know if there is any use of education. We cannot be sure that education will surely lead you to success and not even to success but to a job. Of course, it raises chances of job placement but we cannot foreknow how it turns out.
Why the question of education brings out so much attention? The reason is – young generation is uncertain about their future. On the one hand, they see successful people who graduated from colleges or universities, obtained their degrees, found their perfect job, and live a happy life. On the other hand, we can see those MAs and PhDs without jobs. A young adult cannot know exactly if those years spent at college would provide them with work.
The other reason why youngsters give up colleges is the examples of well-known people who either gave up their studying or never even started going to college. All of us know the names of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, Winston Churchill, Quentin Tarantino, Peter Jackson, Mark Twain, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates and a lot of other famous personalities. These examples make young people depreciate the importance of higher education that was always perceived as an investment to future accomplishment, something that should raise your income and ensure success (Angrist and Krueger, 1999).
In this case, we should clearly define what is a success? Some people will parallel it with a lot of money. The other will dwell about family and love. One more group of people will tell that success is personal development. And all of them will be right. But, not all of them will be successful. All of these kinds of success are interdependent but not all of them need education to be completed.
In the well-known book, ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ by Robert Kiyosaki both poor and rich father wanted their children to get an education but the reasons were different. The poor dad wanted his child to get an education in order to have a good job and decent salary. The rich dad wanted his son to get an education in order to know how money works and how to make his child can make it work for him. But the author underlined that school with its general and even professional education won’t help children to be financially free in future (Robert T. Kiyosaki, 1997).
The future success of a person will depend on his or her personal inclinations. The main problem of people not attaining success is not identifying their values. Your personal values will lead you to your professional success. It should be principles and beliefs with the unbreakable background, something that will help you to take decisions. (Bud Bilanich, 2011). As an example, I will provide my own beliefs: common sense, hardworking, education, self-improvement, trust, group-work, justice, and optimism. These are the things that I hope will guarantee me success.
The next thing a person needs to know is a point of destination. Of course, I’m not talking about final step of your career but you should know what you want to be. You should define your target as accurately as possible. It will make the process of obtaining a result much easier.
Next step towards a successful life is global perspective. Arthur Schopenhauer, a famous German philosopher, once said that limits of a person are defined by his vision of the world’s limits. It means that in order to gain a success a person shouldn’t close himself in one field of study. A person has to be in constant development, always taking new challenges, solving new problems. These principles will always lead you to new ideas which you could realize in order to reach success.
We asked him why he did this and was he expecting such a result? And his answer was no. Everything that had happened was just a coincidence. He said that he wanted to get his dream job and studying at the university just took a lot of time but he didn’t see that he was moving towards his dream. Today, he visits different countries testing different systems and services. He also gave some lectures at his former university. He doesn’t think about creating a family because he wants to found his own company. That is why he plans to visit some business courses in the university. He doesn’t take his luck for granted he continues to work and to study in order to achieve his desirable success.
Let us analyze this particular case. A specific purpose made a man change his plan of actions. We can see that after his first unsuccessful try he didn’t give up but tried to find a job. He didn’t have any diploma but he had knowledge which played the main part in his job placement. He plans to enter university again but he will change his major in order to prepare for a future career. He travels around the world. In that way, he widens his global perspective.
The next person under analysis is a girl of 23 who is currently studying for her MA degree in English philology. When she was at school she didn’t know what she wanted to do for a living that is why she listened to her parents (both are teachers) and entered the university of liberal arts. On the second year of study, she understood that she made a mistake because being a teacher isn’t profitable and she didn’t like the process of teaching itself. But, she was too afraid to change anything. She works as a freelancer today. She doesn’t raise a lot of money but it is just enough for her now. She has no dream that is why she doesn’t know what she is going to do after graduation.
While analyzing the second case we can see that the absence of a concrete plan disables the girl to organize her road to success. She didn’t choose her future profession, she didn’t choose her major and now she is stuck. We believe that in this case a good motivation could help. Also, it is of an utmost importance to set the goal. Without a visible aim, you won’t ever succeed.
As for me, success is a combination of well-organized personal life and good education for future accomplishment. And the most important thing is (as it was mentioned a lot of times above) setting a goal. Directing yourself is the essential thing that you should make in order to succeed. And to my mind, education is really important. Firstly it provides you with information that you will use in future. Secondly, it widens your mental outlook. Thirdly, you make new friends. And finally, a university shows you a bunch of opportunities, perspectives, and a way to accomplish your dream.
