Introduction
Business leaders across the globe have value statements that guide them throughout their lives. Core values are characterized as things of worth and serve as guideposts for associations on initiative and basic leadership (Browning, 2009). Core values speak to the center needs of a person’s or an organization’s way of life. At its most fundamental, a value statement depicts the general motivation behind the individual or group. It reveals insight into a person’s values and sympathy toward other people and activities for survival. The value statement is a convincing portrayal of the state and capacity of the person or group once it has understood its vital structure (Browning, 2009).
Creating a value statement serves as a guide on how people live their lives. At the last stage of Erikson’s eight –stage theory of development which is integrity versus despair, Erikson emphasized that at this stage, people tend to reflect the kind of life they lived, the choices they made, and the roads traveled (Fleming, 2004). With this, I was inspired to create my personal value statement.
Personal Value Statement
When I was five years old, I clearly remember how I would often see children on the streets, begging for foods or asking for money. Mother always told me to share whatever I have because unlike them, I was a fortunate lad whose needs were well-provided by my parents. When I was in my fourth grade, we had a field trip to an orphanage and home for the aged. I felt sad seeing children without parents. I felt sad seeing old people abandoned by their children. As I become a young adult and up to this day, I have strong yearning to pay back to the community by helping and making an impact on the lives of orphans and old people. Hence, my personal value statement goes this way: “To provide genuine care for the less fortunate people, especially the orphans and the aged, by striving hard to give them comfort, eliminate oppression, and promote equality, peace, and love.”
How Ethics Shaped the Way I Live
As a rule, value alludes to the relative worth of quality or item. Quality is the thing that makes something alluring or undesirable (Chippendale, 2001). Through applying our own as benchmarks, we constantly make subjective judgments around an entire way of things. Ethics, on the other hand, are the gauges by which practices are assessed for their profound quality - their rightness or misleading quality (Chippendale, 2001).
There are some ethical theories that offer explanations to people’s choices. Virtue ethics states that character matters most importantly else (Hursthouse, 2013). Carrying on with a moral life, or acting properly, requires creating and exhibiting the qualities of fearlessness, empathy, insight, and restraint. It likewise requires the evasion of indecencies like covetousness, desire, and narrow-mindedness. The word empathy directs my sense of compassion for other people. My mother would often share stories of children who were abandoned by their parents because of poverty. Other children were left because they were merely conceived by women who were rape victims. It is not easy to visit a home or check on the life of other people and help them with issues that they are in. A lot of time, something is missed out.
People do not understand how difficult it is, and they always think, things are simpler as they could get. Various organizations seek to respond to the social, medical, and economic situations that lead to children becoming orphaned. They search for points that create the image of what continuously exist in unhealthy families as well as the daily lives of children. There are individuals who avoid orphans. When I see orphans, I have visions of depression, sadness, brokenness, sufferings, hopelessness, darkness, and loneliness. Virtue ethics encourage us to avoid greed and to share what we have to others. Giving charity goes a long way. Philanthropy goes past offering help to the impoverished, reaching out to the advancement of satisfaction and the backing of numerous noble motivations." With essential needs missing in a vagrant's life, it is extremely unlikely they could be cheerful. Life is a noble motivation.
Utilitarianism holds that the measure of bliss and suffering made by a man's activities is the thing that truly matters (Mill, 1901). Along these lines, acting properly includes boosting the measure of satisfaction and minimizing the measure of agony around you. Once in a while, you may even need to break a portion of the good conventional guidelines to accomplish such a result. A lot of people hold on to the beliefs that orphanage is about children with dirty faces, crumbling walls, and children pressed in packed rooms. In reality, a lot of them are precarious and unfortunate, and an unsteady orphanage implies kids might not have fundamental needs met. In any situation, that is not often the case with all orphanages. Individuals do not see the opposite side of it, the side of how young children carry on with their life at home. While misuse by outsiders happens, most abusers are relatives or others near the family.
A few children are not the most secure at home. There are numerous orphanages with extraordinary associations that have been aided by numerous groups. The purpose behind these groups is to dispose of what individuals think about the orphanages as well as provide healthcare to the orphans. With the goal shelters should serve and have the capacity to address the issues of the youngsters, it is imperative that they are bolstered.
There are individuals out there that do not support orphanages as well as do not support beneficent associations. Citizens around the globe do not know how orphanages can affect a kid's life emphatically, and that is the reason they do not maintain them. Kids in orphanages are denied of numerous things. It can be basic easily overlooked details however it can influence them tremendously. People need to feel a feeling of having a place and acknowledgment, whether it originates from a huge social group, for example, office society, clubs, proficient associations, religious gatherings, posses, sports groups, or little social organization, they have to love and be adored by others. Without these components, numerous individuals get to be powerless to forlornness, social nervousness, as well as clinical dejection. This requirement for having a place can regularly overcome the physiological and security needs. This is the reason it is vital to have individuals or groups that will enhance the lives of children around the globe and their fundamental needs.
Kantianism underlines the standards behind activities instead of an event's outcomes (Secker, 1999). Acting appropriately requires being spurred by the legitimate widespread rule that approaches everybody with deference. When you are inspired by the right standards, you conquer your creature impulses and act morally. As for me, I am inspired to see the smiles on the faces of orphans and old people. Whenever I see old people, my heart breaks knowing that their children left them under the care of people they do not know. If I become old, I do not want in be put to the home for the aged. I want to use the last days of my presence with my family, my children, and grandchildren. I wish to make lasting memories while I am still alive. While some men and women state valid reasons for leaving their parents, I just feel extremely sad for these old aged individuals.
As kids, we are dependably instructed to regard our folks. Guardians are God in human structures, one must love one's folks, and it is the obligation of the kids to deal with their folks in their old age, these are some diktats that have been gliding around in our general public for quite a long time. However, today we see an enormous increment in the quantity of homes for the aged, or the more elegant, retirement homes. Matured individuals are turning out to be increasingly disconnected, and adolescents have less and less tolerance for taking care of them or changing them. Numerous high with class and status in the public eye cannot stand seeing their matured and debilitated guardians and abandon them to shrivel away in dark seniority homes, not by any means thinking back once at the individual who was the prime purpose behind their presence.
There are additionally a sizable number of people who are compelled to take the choice of leaving their folks in seniority homes because their folks abandon them no other decision with their state of mind and conduct. We people, as we have so frequently listened, are social creatures. We live in families dissimilar to different creatures who go separate courses from their folks after they grow up, we by and large still nurture them, till the end of their lives. Notwithstanding, in this social setup, we frequently go to people who administer to family or connections. For them, their needs and needs must be fulfilled, by any methods. They give two pence on the off chance that somebody in the family needs their consideration.
Care ethics centers moral concern on connections before different elements. Accordingly, acting appropriately includes building, fortifying, and keeping up reliable connections. Acting appropriately in this way shows care to others and for the connections of which they are a part. To care, ethicists, connections are crucial to moral considerations. Many children will attempt to live separately from their parents each time an opportunity presents itself. Whether such action is correct or not, I believe that children should continue to care for their parents even until their old age. Be it family members or strangers or caregivers, everyone must show genuine care and concern for old people and orphans.
Conclusion
I have always wanted to share my sentiments each time I see orphans and old aged people. It breaks my heart to see them alone, broken, depress, and sad. I would never want to be in the same desolate situation. I wanted to be cared for and loved even when I reach old age. Ethics emphasizes the need to care for others and to promote the common goods. Hence, with the value statement that guides me, I intend to stand by my words and show genuine care, love, and concern for other people, especially those who are in need.
