Sun Devil Story
Hailing from a Kuwait, I am the youngest child of a large family with five siblings. Being in a family which has been doing business for quite some time now, I have always wanted to pursue Business Administration to be suitably qualified to get into our family business. My desire to pursue my Business study is because of my observation of my family business, which has taught me that doing the same business for a long period of time leads to following certain repeated techniques thereby resulting in stagnation. I am sure that doing my business course would help me have a better perspective in dealing with challenges, apply modern management techniques, and improve my approach to problem solving. This would eventually lead me to have a better outlook of the business world, be quick to adapt to the global, technological and environmental changes. The knowledge and skill that I would gain during my course of study would help me to develop my insight and help me take up further challenging responsibilities.
The decision to get into ASU was a deliberate one, as my friends suggested it, and also after carefully considering its ranking. Studying in a Business School that is ranked number 1 in the US for innovation, being consistently ranked as a top school for its graduate and undergraduate programs, had always impressed me and made me yearn to get into ASU. I chose W.P. Carey School of Business especially for its selection process, reputation among peer institutions, academic and career support offered to students. I also wanted to do my online program with a School of repute, where only the best and brightest are given admission, to expose me to a whole new world of possibilities and improve my network of professional and like-minded entrepreneurs. I have also felt the need to network with people of similar interests to develop business ventures. This kind of widespread networking is assured to guarantee success making my chances better to grab the best opportunities.
I had also understood that freshmen at W.P. Carey have to take business classes from the first day onwards, with emphasis on a curriculum that covered skill courses and core business curriculum, which fuelled my desire to get into W.P. Carey further.
As mentioned earlier, being in a family which ran business for many years I was greatly influenced by everyone in the family and with a plethora of opportunities available in the business world I felt that I had to be well qualified to get into my father’s business which made me pursue Finance as my major, earlier. Since good and efficient business leaders contribute to positive and effective global changes I had always wanted to be one such efficient businessman. And in order to become one, I would like to improve on my people management and leadership skills. Apart from it, I would also like to learn about global leadership and retail management.
People around me have always applauded me for my fast Accounting and Math skills. I feel this has to do with my family background. And I feel motivated about taking my father’s business to a higher level from where it is now. And would like to equip myself with knowledge and competence to go forward in that direction. After establishing our business in my country, I would like to spearhead its global reach and employ as many under privileged and underutilized professionals from the third world countries in order to help them overcome their socio economic challenges.
In future, I would like to promote women in our community to become entrepreneurs by providing them training and support. If given a chance I would like to start something like a Grameen bank, like Professor Mohammad Yunus, to help the disadvantaged people find a source of livelihood. I have been haunted by the desire to help the underprivileged in any way that I can.
