Factors Influencing Choice of University in U.K
Choosing university in the United Kingdom has become a matter of concern to most students considering the fact that there are many universities in the United Kingdom. There are many factors, which influence selection, of the university in United Kingdom, which include technological status of the university, funding and tuition fees, and assessment methodology.
The availability of information technology greatly affects the choice of the university by the students in the United Kingdom. Majority of the students would prefer to choose universities with well equipped with technology related infrastructure. Technology plays a crucial in the life of a student especially in the learning process. Accessing the technology in a given university will determine if the student will choose the university or not. Many students in the United Kingdom learn under distant learning program hence will require computers to access the learning materials. Universities with modern technological facilities are chosen more by the students while those which are less equipped are less chosen by the students.
The other factor, which plays a, fundamental role in influencing the University of Choice, is the university mode of assessment. The method of assessment has become a very important factor looked by many students in the UK. The popular mode of assessment in most of the universities is the formative type which is a favorite to many students. According to students, the universities which offer formative assessment are widely preferred by the students than those which use summative method.
Students will choose the universities according to the financial state of their backgrounds1. Availability of financial aid in the university also plays a crucial role in influencing the choice of a university. Students will choose the universities will low tuition fees as compared to the universities with high tuition fees. Thus the higher the tuition fees the less the students choose the university. This is because most of the parents need universities which they can afford to pay tuition fees. The other factor which influences the choice of the university in the U.K is the accreditation and reputation of the university. Students want those universities which posse’s high accreditation in terms of regional accreditation recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.2
