Abstract
The attachment theory as well as the family systems theory together is proffered as the potential framework for understanding adverse effects of the parentification. The attachment theory assists in clarifying the procedure of parentification because it engages relationship between the child and the parent or caregiver. The family systems theory provides clarity for context in that the parentification takes place. The internal working models are conversed as the mechanism meaning that making the parentification process happened as well as thereby informs opportunities for the positive or negative outcomes in the adulthood. The projected framework permits for the potentially broader outlook of the omnipresent phenomenon parentification.
Connection between attachment theory and family systems theory
Idiosyncratic or culture family configurations play important role in neglecting like parentification; which occurs in family context as well as because family system is changing continuously, the exact environment where the negligence is evident, requires to be contextualized in order that it can be sufficiently explored. In addition, in the families, the boundaries may often be seen like rigid, distorted, or nonexistent. Family systems theory assists in informing the clinicians and researchers regarding factors, which influence the child maltreatment. These phenomena play very important role in the parents’ inability for providing adequate bonding, nurturing, and care, thus affecting the attachment. Therefore, parent is not capable to provide the secure base to the child.
Connection between attachment theory and family systems theory
Attachment theory gives useful framework to understand the effect of neglecting as well as potential for positive and negative outcomes. In the descriptions of functioning of the attachment behaviours, obviously articulated criticalness of attachment behaviour for development as well as to current/future functioning. This theory anticipated that infant’s association with primary caregiver is prototype for the subsequent relationships. The attachment style, which develops in infant–caregiver association, influences the future relationships. The early experiences with the primary caregiver turn into psychologically internalized like mental representation or an internal working model for relationships.
