Developments of theories are guided and build on different principals. The principals include deducing family theories from more general theories. This implies that most current family theories are derived from the general theories in the field of social science .In addition the deriving perspective is possible without the use of deductive logic. Codification of partial theories is another strategy .Theories in most cases only points out one part of phenomena, making it incomplete. According to Hills (1971) different theories which are incomplete could be combined in order to form a more general theory (White & Klein, 2002).
Another strategy is the Formative stage, throughout the formative stage, the very important metaphor of the theory constructed comes into sharper attention. This symbol may ultimately be so specific to be articulated as preposition or models of mathematics. Theory testing and refinement is also of great importance in construction of family theories, the implication of this is that the theories should be geared towards thorough testing Testing narrows most concepts and build a clear focus on the meanings (White & Klein, 2002). The critics created strengthens thee theory. Finally integrating focuses on pulling different things together in order to do away with confusions. The theoretical unification clearly magnifies and puts meaning to the real perspective of the world.
Arguably, all the theories must undergo through crucial stages .This are the refinement stage and the formative stage. Throughout the formative stage, the vital metaphor of the theory constructed comes into sharper spotlight. This allegory may ultimately be so specific to be articulated as preposition or models of mathematics. Refinement stage too is of great importance in the construction of these theories. In this stage, the theory in question is more and more subjected to criticism, testing and application. Consequently ,these diverse actions makes the theory to be more distinguished, separated into variants, or may finally fall into the class of the trash heap of scientific history such as the heliocentric theory of the universe.
Theories which are beyond the formative stage can be identified so easily. The metaphor in these theories can easily be recognized. As an example the “opposition” and “clash” in the conflict theory and “time-dependent change” in the family developmental life course theory. In every aspect of every theory development refinement stage is complex. This is because theories occupying deified ground in physics. For example the relativity theory needs to be modified to achieve greater capability and explanations so as to be able to pact with the anomalies that beset different theories (White & Klein, 2002).
In the 21 century there are still many challenges that affect the family theory. There is still a wide gap from achieving an incorporated theoretical outlook which ensures that there exists a cohesive analysis of the way we act and reason. Perhaps, as the changes in humans occur, the field of language too changes and becomes more complex. Hence it is a vast task to understand all the meanings of all nominal terms that are used in theories. This affects the construction of theories adversely. In the contemporary society we are in a point in which words are unreliable indicators of the theoretical postures and meanings. The key concepts found in theories have no allegiance in whatsoever it implies.
The terminologies and meanings of different concepts are been eroded hence its real meanings and ideal are not developed well. Hill’s had foreseen the challenge and had advised on studying the terminologies and concepts in a very critical way so as to maintain the relevance of the theory. In the contemporary society it is difficult to understand the society, it has become so complex hence the theories fail to predict the social changes that occurs over a particular period of time.
