“Sex and the City” can be fairly called the iconic television series for women and about women. Touching upon all the aspects of their lives, the program considers the women’s eternal passion for fashion as a link and the inevitable part of each important element of their existence. This paper is thus going to analyze the role of shopping in the definite situation in the life of the main character in the episode 3 from Season 3 of “Sex and the City”.
The episode introduces to Carrie’s personal drama namely the marriage of her ex-boyfriend. When Carrie meets the bride in the shop, it turns out they are going to visit the same event soon. At this point, everything that matters for Carrie is to look as fascinating as possible. She wears the expensive shoes and carefully picks up the dress in order to feel confident and, what is more important, better and more beautiful than Natasha (the bride). As a result of the shopping trip, the main character already feels more powerful in anticipation of meeting the “enemy”.
Analyzing the characters of “Sex and the City”, it becomes quite obvious that compared to men, women dedicate a lot of time and emotions for shopping. The latter indeed influences their psychology positively in the majority of cases; it gives them the sense of power and self confidence. As a result of the shopping trip, Carrie eagerly goes to the event, feeling fabulous (unfortunately, she has no chance to check Natasha’s reaction because the bride does not come).
As seen in the episode, shopping may help the woman’s transformation physically thus influencing her much in psychological terms which usually brings benefits (Akass). So it is fair to say that shopping is a vital part of every woman’s life.
