Introduction
I am recently employed in the educational establishment and I am planning to change my field of occupation to Human Relationship. I am eager to enter this professional field due to my interest in HR solutions, my personal experience in working with people, as well as my communication and analytical skills that will be important in this area. In order to detect if this change is feasible for me personally and professionally, I managed to explore the sphere of HR in detail in compliance with particular criteria revealed in this project.
Proposed Action
The proposed action is to change my career path from being an educator in school to become an HR professional.
Criteria
This research evaluates the alterations on the basis of the following criteria: skills required for this job market, the number of job positions available in the specific geographic locations, average wages proposed in HR, latest trends in this professional field, areas of employment available for HR specialists, and type of companies hiring HR professionals.
Sources
In order to produce credible and reliable results, the current project used two resources, specifically the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) website and, specifically, its Occupational Outlook Handbook, which helped to acquire the most relevant information in the field of HR; and the research conducted by Amechi, Uti Charles and Long, Choi Sang “HR Professionals Technology Proponent Competency: A Review” that provided a perspective on the latest trends in the field of HR. The article was retrieved in the school library.
Conclusions
After reviewing the BLS website and the information found in the Handbook regarding the field of HR, there were several conclusions produced by the current report. First of all, the main requirement for the job is to obtain Bachelor’s degree, which is considered a typical entry level education level (BLS). Thus, as I have the necessary degree, I am qualified to enter this field. It is emphasized that not only the graduates who have HR education may be employed in this area, it is possible that individuals with other degrees, education is among them, can be employed in HR. At the same time, it is recommended to undergo the courses in conflict resolution in addition to a degree (BLS). Also, higher positions in this field require masters in HR or business administration. One of the requirements is to obtain minimum experience in the field of HR by starting out as lower level specialists due to the lack of knowledge in labor legislation and administration. Therefore, I can start as a lower level specialist in HR and develop as a professional through the further education. Also, the employers prefer to hire certified specialists in this area. Therefore, I will have to invest certain time and finances to undergo certification procedures or try to be employed in the company that does not make this procedure obligatory. The skills required for this profession are effective decision-making, leadership, organizational, and communication. I have well-developed decision-making and communication skills. Also, my current work requires efficient organizational and leadership abilities, which make me qualified for the field of HR.
One of the advantages of this field is a wide variety of areas that employ HR specialists. Specifically, it is possible to be hired by management companies, manufacturing industry, government, healthcare, as well as the scientific and technical services. I would prefer to enter the field of management or governmental structure due to my personal interest in these fields. The average median wage in management in 2015 was $118,320 and governmental jobs for HR proposed $92,280 per year. It is more effective to consider employment in the area of management due to the higher salary and more jobs proposed by this field. It is possible that my initial wage will be lower due to the lack of direct experience in HR. It is possible to receive around $137,670 per hour in New York, yet, my salary is supposed to be lower than this number due to the lack of experience. There are 9,960 jobs available in this sector. Also, the area of HR tends to grow rapidly, which makes it a perspective field of occupation. I have a lot of prospects in this field and the ability to choose the job, especially when I will gain minimum experience.
According to the data provided by BLS, the HR field will grow from 2014 to 2024 by 9 percent, where this increase will depend on the performance of the HR companies and development of specialists in this field. It was admitted by the research that the specialists in HR will have to be particularly advanced in related technologies in order to be competitive in this field (Amechi and Long 34). It leads to a conclusion that I will have to undergo several courses before entering the field of HR, including the technological equipment, legislation, and master my skills in targeting the specialists.
Recommendations
After careful examination of the field of HR and the prospects existing in it, I think that I am qualified to be employed in this professional sphere. I have the necessary amount of skills and obtain the needed educational degree for the entry level worker. The field may be competitive and I will need to obtain certification as well as consider gaining Master’s degree in HR or business administration. Further research will require the knowledge in financial resources I will need when moving to New York and will start researching for entry-level jobs right away.
