Writing is fast becoming my hobby. This began when I started attending English writing classes. My passion for writing has been increasing day in day out because of the new knowledge I gain from writing classes. My instructor, together with my classmates has been a huge inspiration in helping me improve my ability in writing. They always encourage me, guide me and correct me whenever I do anything wrong during my classes. This has helped me develop a positive attitude towards writing. Even though I have experienced several challenges since I began this course, I believe I have improved significantly.
My teacher has been the most helpful and inspirational person since I started these classes. He has sacrificed his time to give me the necessary help and attention to improve my writing skills. He gives me a lot of time to do adequate research and make any necessary corrections to the work I do. The adequate time also gets pressure off me, allowing me to do my work carefully and correctly.
I have also improved my writing ability because of the feedback system, which is done on our school website. The teacher encourages us to do our personal research, write articles and then get feedback from our classmates. This has been helpful in giving me confidence in my writing class. The fact that I can now do research and write a quality article, essay or research paper, which then receives positive comments from my colleagues, is encouraging. My ability to assess my colleagues’ work and give them feedback has also helped me improve my writing. I get to learn a few things from their writing styles.
The teacher’s strict approach is also helpful in enhancing my writing. He insists that we should proof-read and then fix the essays at the school’s writing center before uploading them. This has made me rely on my ability and knowledge when writing so as to avoid plagiarism. I also fix any mistakes in my work by proof-reading. Furthermore, the teacher gives us freedom to choose topics on which we want to write. The freedom to choose topics enables me to write on topics that I have done research on, accessed references and citations and those that I have a passion to write.
My passion for writing also resulted from my teacher’s flexibility in class. He taught us on many aspects of writing. We have learnt to write different types of styles and formats. The teacher gave clear instructions on how to write different writing styles such as the APA writing style, MLA and Chicago. This has enabled me to deal with all these styles whenever I am writing. I have also learnt to write different papers and articles. For instance, I have learnt to write essays, research papers and reports.
Finally, the teacher has been understanding and available for consultations whenever I need him. His consultation hours are convenient, and he is always available. He gives me guidance and advice on how to improve my writing skills. He answered my questions whenever I failed to understand some writing concepts. The writing course helped me grow, learn and improve my confidence in writing. It also helped me realize that I could be a good writer if I worked hard to improve.
