First and foremost according to my understanding if the readings women are human beings who deserve the chance to develop and enhance their human potential. The debate over the very status and special nature of women has raged many nations socially, politically and economically. I believe that time has come towards true equal opportunities for women as well as the full equal partnership between the sexes (Chichester, 32). Throughout the history of the United States of America some of their citizens where denied the suffrage based on their sexual orientation, race and even their age. The women’s suffrage movement marked the struggle for women in the fight to be given equal opportunities to vote and run office.
The feminism struggle has come a long way dating back to the late nineteen century. Several waves were instituted during this time (Sherrow, 15). The goal of these waves was to open up equal opportunities for both men and women focusing on suffrage. For instance according to the reading National Organization for Women Statement of Purpose ”The purpose of NOW is to take responsibility to bring women to full participation in the mainstream of the American society, exercising all the privileges as well as responsibilities thereof in equal partnership with the men.” (Richard, 34).
There is a very strong correlation between my understanding of the articles and the readings (Kunjakkan, 11). Dating back to the historical time up to date women have been alienated and deprived the equal opportunity and the full equal partnership with their men counterparts. It is high time that that we should all stand up and fight to develop and enhance the human potential regardless of the sexual orientation, age and even race.
