It is a principle fact and standards that the movie and film Boys N the Hood was intended to addresses some of the prevailing and current issues. These issues affected the society particularly the youths in the periods of the early nineties. It is important and worth to note and mention that the movie and film Boys N the Hood

Has received international recognition and acclaim in the sight and vision of international awards. This explains why it has been nominated for the category of the original screenplay, the Original screenplay and the prestigious academy awards in the same years where it was released and shown to the public. At the face value, there are many critical societal aspects and issues that the movie seems to articulate and address in the day to day life of people who live in the low-income areas. To begin with, built environment, and the youth environment is articulated in a way such that the society is informed. It is to say that the physical and social environment that a person especially the youth live in has a huge impact on how it shapes and dictates their behavior and attitudes. The above is perhaps the reasons as to why the youths in this society of the film and movie Boys N the Hood seem to exhibit signs of gun violence and downright crime. Societal observers and cultural critics may however point out that this occurs because of the lack of good role models and the value of friendships that people keep in their lives.
On the same breadth and line of thought, there are issues that are alluded and implied by way of extension. That is the value of and importance of education and how such would shape and change the behaviors and attitudes of a people in a social setting and society. The fact that this movie boy N the Hood centers in the physical environment of the youth shows how their behaviors would be influenced at different physical environments (Coser 11). For instance, it would be safe to assert and note that the youths who grow up in the ghettos of Los Angeles, would have a directed behavioral orientation as compared to the ones in the low-income areas of Los Angeles. However, the shift of the behavioral patterns could be merely a shift and deviance of an individual. Thus, this comparison is no absolute terms.
A practical instance and example of this argument is when, Doughboy opts to challenge and fight the members of another Crip gang with the aim of getting his football back. His way of approach to the Crip members was confrontational and was devoid of reverence. It is not to mention that he was wrong, but because he had lived in somewhat a tough neighborhood, therefore, his style of approach also had to change to aggression and toughness. In some other parts, the father of Tre, called Furious Styles takes his child for fishing when he sees Doughboy and Chris having been arrested for allegedly shoplifting from a neighborhood drugstore.
All these parts and characteristics are unique to the urban environments where the youths live. It is to say that the kind of decadence, violence and crime levels is unique to the urban areas. This film makes it seem to be visible easy for a person, especially in the urban areas to have, own and brandish gun even when the means of acquiring that gun is illegal. It is confirmed by the fact that at the slightest confrontation between the boys, brandishing of guns and firing at one another seems to the outright and easy solution to settling scores.
Subsequently, it easy to discern and see the number of people who have been involved in gun battles in the Boys N the Hood, most of who have been shot by rival gang members. A practical instance and example and instance in this line of thought is occasioned and evident when Chris nurses and suffers from a gunshot wound and is, therefore, forced to be in a wheelchair. Secondly, there is an instance where Tre, encounters members of another gang called Blood gang, who tease him with a double-barred gun in a threateningly dangerous way and manner. It is worth to note and mention that it is easy for these young people to acquire guns albeit in an illegal manner, to the extent that it becomes fashionable to own one. It becomes some sort of benchmark for the neighborhood, and any youth who is not in a gang or does not have a gun is subjected to humiliation and gets picked on most of the times.
In some instance, the police officer, at the scene when Tre was involved in some brawl with Ricky, who was a member of the opposing gang. During this time, gunshots are fired in the air, and the people flee this area, and then the police officers come. Tre is particular picked by a certain officer who happened to the very same one who was involved in the arrest of his friends during the shoplifting experience. The officer points a gun straight to the face of Tre taunting and mocking him on what he would do about it. The irreducible minimum in this line of thought and argument is the use of gun violence that is perpetuated by the police and the gang mobs alike. It is as if, gun is a symbol and sign of utmost authority and machismo. Thus, youths in strive to remain relevant and strong in their neighborhoods are forced to join gangs that have guns o themselves have guns.
In relation to the above point, this movie raises the critical issue of the value of the role models in an environment, or the people who can shape the environment in a positive light and manner. For instance, at some point, Furious Styles prevails upon Tre to avoid joining the gangs especially when he resorts to carry a gun in a retaliatory approach. The very fact that Furious tries to convince Tre that guns and gangs are not the in thing shows that there are people in the neighborhoods who still care about what is moral and right. In the same line of thought, it is safe to assert that the boys or the fallen brothers who died during the gun battles and killing sprees lacked proper role models who would have shaped their behaviors.
