The movie Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring that released in 2001 is directed by Peter Jackson. The director makes a hobbit; Frodo Baggins, the leader throughout the movie who fights against all the odds to save the ring that would demolish everyone on earth, if misused. A hobbit in an unrealistic world is similar to a human being with small size consisting of hairy feet, who normally reside in middle-earth, and are known to be fun loving people. Frodo is the nephew of Bilbo Baggins who safeguards the ring from the evil, without knowing the overall importance of the ring.
Frodo, as a hobbit spends his time playing with his friends in the Shire; however, he is encountered with a situation to leave the shire along with his gardener friend Samwise Gamgee and safeguard the ring to destroy it in the fires of Mount Doom as ordered by Gandalf the wizard. Though Frodo, is completely unaware about the power of the ring, he agrees to go on an adventure to save the middle-earth on knowing the consequences of the power of the ring from Gandalf. On their adventure Frodo is also attended by another two hobbits Merry and Pippin, who join him unknowingly as they were running after stealing and did not want to get caught.
Frodo is completely unaware of the unforeseen obstacles that he and his team would face on their expedition. As a leader it is very much essential to possess good decision making skills, which is seen as a trait in Frodo. Being a new adventure, and seeing the unseen problems, Frodo finds himself in a situation where he is unable to take correct decisions, which results in risking his life and his team member; Samwise, Merry and Pippin. Even with such an inexperience in handling tough situations Frodo finds good ways to tackle them and is successful in continuing his adventure. He ensures that his team members are not negatively impacted by his decisions.
Frodo as a leader is able to achieve his impact on his fellow members as they listen to his directions. The members are just assisting him in his quest with a reason to accompany their fellow hobbit. They are able to achieve their goals with lot of problems such as Frodo being trapped by ringwraiths who pierce him with morgul blade, where Frodo could have lost his life, if not taken to Rivendell at the right time where he got healed. Apart from Frodo, the director also ensures that Samwise plays a minor lead role who helps Frodo in all aspects of the quest, whenever there arises a situation where Frodo is at risk for his life.
Frodo, Samwise, Merry and Peppin do not have any experience in leading each other; however, it is the determination of Frodo to destroy the ring that keeps them moving ahead. In Rivendell when it is decided by Lord Elrond to destroy the ring in Mount Doom, Frodo comes ahead and takes the responsibility to lead the team along with the dwarves who also think that the ring must be destroyed to save middle-earth. Frodo is aware that anyone who possesses the ring will ruin the middle-earth, and when Boromir of Gondor tries to snatch the ring from Frodo, he realizes to save his friends from getting their mind corrupted by the use of the ring. Hence, Frodo decides to travel alone without anyone to Mordor to destroy the ring in Mount Doom.
Being in the team of Frodo and working under such leader is a great experience, as Frodo is seen as a leader who is ready to face any risks at any situations, as well as support his team and the members in times of crises. The team members also support Frodo as everyone is on a mission to achieve their goal of destroying the ring. The leadership skills of Frodo are seen to be developing because of the team he is handling, beginning from Samwise who is always supportive in all the decisions taken by Frodo. The director shows that a good team and team work can achieve any obstacles to get the objectives in the right manner. In case there is any team member who is not in support of the team’s objectives then there can be a failure in achieving the goals. Frodo and his team is successful in crossing all the barriers and trying to achieve the target of reaching Mount doom.
