Below is a report of the facility analysis done on Acoustic Cafe in order to assess the level of Fire Protection and Prevention status.
Fire extinguishers are present at several locations on the facility. They hang on the wall and the pressure gauges show the correct pressure. They are well maintained and free of signs of corrosion. The fire extinguishers are within their annual inspection dates although they are due for inspection in a few months time. All the fire extinguishers are unobstructed and are freely visible. They are regularly inspected by the Menomonie fire department.
Signs
The escape routes are clearly visible. There are signs that indicate the position of the nearest exit door at several places on the facility. The fire doors are properly labeled and the external fire doors have written instructions on how they are to be opened.
Alarm Systems
The facility's fire alarm system is not functional presently. Although it was working in the past, it is currently out or order. Several break glass points identified. They are properly fitted and they have a cover glass that can be smashed. The call points are all visible and there were clear signs to identify those call points.
Suppression systems and water supply
The facility does not have a suppression system at all. A sprinkler system was never installed in the facility.
Evacuation plans
A muster point was identified in the building where everyone was expected to assemble in case of emergency. From this muster point, they were to be led to the different emergency exit doors. Therefore, the building had a functional evacuation plan.
Exits
Fire exit doors were identified. The exit doors were labeled boldly with the sign “EXIT”. They are all functional. The exit doors are also fitted with emergency lighting that comes on when there is a power failure. All the exits were all clear of all forms of obstruction. The exit doors opened and closed easily and were not obstructed on either side. In addition, the external pathways that emanate from the exit doors were clear. Therefore, I would say that the escape routes and exits are fully functional and can be readily used in case of emergency.
Flammable Hazmat storage and handling.
There is no tangible facility for the storage of Hazardous materials and chemicals. Old materials and machines that are out of order are all kept in a room, which served as an improvised store. The room contained old furniture, files, boxes, Christmas trees and paints.
Access for fire department response or emergency responders
There is no special access for the fire department or emergency responders.
Emergency response team, level of current staff
The current staff has a level 6 training to respond to any emergency.
Past experience
There has not been any fire incident in the past.
Current overview of the facility and future needs
In addition, it would be noted that the facility does not have any protocol for handling hazardous and flammable materials. Instead, the facility converted a room into an improvised store where all sort of materials are kept. Some plastic and some wooden. It should be noted that the state of the room is very dangerous, as it would not take time for any fire incident to engulf the room since the materials are arranged in a haphazard manner. The facility should designate a proper store to keep unused equipment and materials.
