Introduction (Be sure to highlight all citations and creative language)
Attention: A Roman poet Juvenal once said “A healthy mind in a healthy body” (cited in Stam, p. 34) and this proverb is still well-known in the world for a simple reason – it says truth.
Credibility: Having made research on this topic I am going to present you the benefits of nutrition and exercise on human health.
Preview: First, I am going to discuss the proper nutrition, next I will move on to exercising. Finally, I am going to speak about the importance of combination of good meal and exercise.
Body (Be sure to highlight all citations and creative language)
Good nutrition should include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, nuts and seeds, as well as healthy fats (“Nutrition and healthy eating,” n.d.).
However, according to statistics, “only about 21 percent of adults consume the recommended amounts of fruits a day [and] about one-third of adults consume the recommended amounts of vegetables a day” (Linck, 2013).
A proper diet would help to get rid of many health problems as well as prevent future diseases. For example, eating healthy can prevent such chronic diseases as cancer, diabetes, obesity and heart disease (Pratini, 2014).
Transition: Now that you know about the benefits of healthy nutrition, we can move on to the exercise and its positive effects on health.
Regular exercise, in its turn, has also many beneficial effects on our health both physical and mental.
Firstly, on physical level,
regular exercise prevents the risk of high blood pressure and heart diseases.
Moreover, when exercising, more oxygen is admitted to the blood and respiratory system is being developed as well. As the skin breathes more, it becomes soft as velvet.
In addition, properly chosen types of exercise help to prevent osteoporosis and are beneficial for the bones (“Health benefits of physical activity,” n.d.).
Thus, a person can stay “forever young” as a 50-year-old Joanne does. She says “I feel better now than I did in my 30s. I can do anything!” (“10 most inspiring success stories,” 2013).
Moreover, regular exercise also helps to stay mentally healthy.
It is said that physical activity stimulates the release of endorphins (i.e. hormones that create a state of euphoria and happiness). Consequently, depression and anxiety may be easily coped with by exercising (Breene, 2013).
Transition: After you have heard the benefits of each health maintaining “technique”, I would like to concentrate on the importance of combining them.
Many people decide to change their lifestyle and improve health by altering only the habits of eating or physical activity only.
However, Abby King, a professor of health research claims that “It may be particularly useful to start both at the same time” (“Change diet, exercise habits at same time,” 2013)
For example, Stanford University has conducted a study and revealed the following pattern among the people who wanted to lose weight: none of the members of the “healthy diet only” group and none of the “exercise only” group achieved their aims (DeNoon, 2013).
Thus, when a person decides to maintain health, the best option is to combine a healthy diet and regular exercise. The results, in this case, would be faster, better and more long-term (ibid.).
Conclusion (Be sure to highlight all citations and creative language)
Signpost/Summary: To summarize, a person can maintain his or her health by eating healthy food and exercising regularly and achieve even better results if combining them. Moreover, the one can also prevent many dangerous diseases as well as avoid mental problems.
Review Importance: Health is the thing that definitely cannot be bought. That is why it is naturally to take a good care about this gift of nature.
Memorable Ending: As Buddha once said, “To keep the body in good health is a duty otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear” (cited in Amory, p. 125).
