The two articles given both look at individual’s consumption in general but put emphasis on consumption patterns of individuals i.e. how people act towards the consumption of some commodities. The article roof 2007 looks at the consumption of GMO foods and provides the rational given by consumers in relations to them . GMO food is considered to be alternative food and there have been a lot of politics surrounding their production, supply, and consumption. Three major aspects are looked at in the article;
Neoliberalization of activism-this has been seen to shift responsibility in regards to reforms from manufacturers and state to individual consumers. It also comes with several social justice implications.
Consumerist politics.
The second article carrier 2007 looks at ethical consumption. It puts forward that ethical consumption has been on the rise over the years. The article puts forward the argument that the topic on ethical consumption ought to be given more attention. The ethical consumption of authentic foods is looked upon . Ethical consumption can be said to have a relationship with both political and social orientation which tend to range from Western European modernity to a semi-rural anti-modernism. This form of consumption is said to be problematic due to the degree to which it is considered to be effective in protesting against an economy based on commerce in fetishized goods.
Consumption decisions should be made by the consumers. Consumers would be able to make sound decisions when they have all information in relations to a commodity and as such it is necessary for manufacturers to give correct and full information on commodities. This also applies in the case of GMO.
