The manufacturing of the mobile phone in America is one of the business activities that are carried out in America but not in Africa. Africa continent does not produce any mobile phone, thus being left being in the mobile phone industry by the other continents. Mobile phones handsets and technology are only distributed around the Africa continent but not produced anywhere within the continent. This provides the major production difference between the two continents. In other words, while African consumes imported mobile phones, American consumes a large portion of the locally manufactured cell phones.
Although most of the mobile phones in America are not produced by the local industry, the Americans own several competitive mobile phone manufacturers. Apple is one of the largest mobile manufacturing companies that started its operations in USA but later spreads to the some of the largest cities in the world (Owen, 2007). Apple is one of the best known American multinational corporations. USA also own the Research In Motion Limited which is the producer of the Blackberry phones in USA, as well as Motorola Inc which is based Illinois. There are also emerging American companies such as HTC Inc that are excelling in the mobile phone manufacturing industry.
On the operation and origination point of view, Apple Inc commenced its manufacturing operations in Elk Grove in California. The company is well recognized for its production of iPhone mobile phones, Macintosh computers among other accessories and software. Apple’s annual sales range between $64 and $70 billion (Owen, 2007). On the other hand, RIM Company was founded in Ontario, Canada where its operation headquarters are based up to today. The company produces millions of Blackberry phones annually holding a market share of approximately 2.8 percent. Motorola Inc originated in Schaumburg, Illinois. The company main operations are the manufacturing of the wireless telephone handset and infrastructure equipment of wireless network. It is among the American top ten mobile producing companies.
It can be said that the manufacture of mobile phones started in the late 1940s. The technology discovered was advanced to another level and mobile phones were introduced. The first technology was useful to the emergency vehicles including the police cars, ambulances and the taxis which used the mobile rigs.
In 1983, the Motorola Company introduced the first mobile phones into the market and they were commonly known as the 1G or first generation phones. The 1G phone was using the analog technology which is not used in the current setting. The problem with this phones is that they were very big, made a lot of noise and extremely expensive. The American people perceived the phones as a status symbol but not as a convenience means.
In 1990s, the American mobile manufacture industry came up with other advanced improvements in technology and introduced the 2G or second generation technology. These phones were unique since they had shifted from analog to the use of new digital technology. The mobile phones were smaller, made less noise and not expensive like the previous phones. The 2G phones had a smaller battery which was energy-efficient and this attracted more customers in the market. There were also sold with an airtime service.
Within some times, the third generation technology or 3G was introduced. This type of technology has a capability to perform various functions: making voice data calls, transferring data in terms of emails, instant messages and information. These have made the manufacturing company to process more mobile phones due to the increased demand in the market. The 3G phones are more convenient to customers and they are of different models.
The manufacture of smart phones is enabled by the high technology of WIFI. Apple and other iPhones have been introduced in the U.S market, an example being the blackberry phone. In 2008, Google Company came up with a new operating system commonly known as the android. The first phone with this technology was the G1 manufactured by the T-Mobile
The 2011 update mobile phone operating systems explains the advancement in the android operating system leading to the latest and dumbest smartphones generation. The iPhone applications are growing at a very faster rate due to the high quality and their effective use, and it has led to the growth of Apple IPhone user base (Michael 2012). The Symbian mobile operating system is also used by the Nokia phones, blackberry, apple IPhone, windows mobile, and the Google android.
The mobile phone industry has had positive implication to the US economy. The sector currently employs a significant level of Americans who would otherwise be jobless in the absence of the sector (Branigan 2010). There are many job opportunities in the industries that manufacture mobile phones. Provision of employment opportunities to the people helps in improving the living standards of the people thus raising the gross domestic product and increased purchasing power among the citizens. In addition, the national goals of reducing dependency are attained since people can get employed t earn their own living.
Another implication of mobile phone manufacturing in the USA is that it generates revenues to the government (Owen, 2007).The government levies duties and taxes to theses industries thus increasing the disposable income of the government. The income from these companies is used in provision of public goods and services. This means that thereby is better provision of public utilities like Schools, roads, health and thus the living standards of the citizens are improved. Moreover, the revenues reduces government borrowing hence the burden of public debt is reduced.
The production of mobile phone has increase efficiency and productivity in businesses. Production of mobile phone has eased communication in America since investors can communicate easily without having to travel. In fact, many business deals in America are conducted by use of mobile phones thus has increased both efficiency and time saving. The use of mobile handsets in America has increased dramatically and this implies that there is flexibility and that people can perform business transactions at any place not only in the office.
Despite these benefits, production of mobile phone in America has led to decline in the purchases of fixe telephone devices. The implication of this is that the company’s manufacturing these devices will fall out of business due to increased competition and low purchases. A good example is that in America, almost all adults own a handset thus the used of fixed landline services become a nightmare.
