INTRODUCTION
Purpose of the Article
Everyone in the workplace desires an environment where one can express without fear from any quarters. It is the desire of all employees to have leaders who will not only be a motivator and energizer in the work place but someone who understands the employee and is a pleasant personality. A good leader should be one that builds trust between him and the employees and their objectives. A great leader according to Glenn Llopis should encourage transparency in communication while also improving cross-departmental collaboration to encourage others to do their best in the workplace. This will go a long way into making employees feel valued and respected for their output.
SUMMARY
As Glenn Llopis suggests, it is important for employees to have a dynamic spirit when they are at work to make them more alive. The employee is not concerned about the politics in the office as he just wants to have fun by facing challenges that encourage trial and error thus making them feel valued and appreciated. For a leader to be successful today in the workplace, there are six things one should do to make the workplace more desirable and exciting for all employees.
- Allow People to Fail; Encourage Employees to Test Their Ideas: By encouraging people to test their ideas in the work place a leader will be motivating his employees to be innovative and entrepreneurial. This will help in the growth of employees turning them into future leaders of the company.
- Build Teams That Last; Allow Them to Be Think-Tanks: this can be achieved by encouraging all workers to participate in the affairs of the organization. The leader must only try to influence without controlling these teams.
- Be a Great Communicator; Hold No Secrets: communication is the key to success in any organization and so a leader should be a good communicator able to reach out to all employees.
- Don’t hide behind the Title; Be the Real You: A great leader should not hide behind his title of leadership but should be one who reveals the kind of person he is to his employees. A leader should be one who relates to the people freely and respects them.
- Awaken the Organization; Keep People on Their Toes: Employees should be encouraged to embrace new perspectives and kept on their toes. The leader should make the environment a place where employees are always growing and thinking big.
- Keep it Simple; Make it Fun: good leaders should come up with good standards and practices that can be enjoyed by the employees and learn from. The workplace should be more about individuals defining the business and not vice versa.
ANALYSIS
Glenn Llopis tries to explain to us what makes a great leader in any workplace. He gives us the six ways which leaders should learn from to enhance their leadership skills and make the workplace a desirable place for both employees and the leader. What is important in these six ways is that they are very much practicable and this means every leader in each organization has the liberty to try them and find out the results. Glenn Llopis not only creates a model to be followed by leaders but something that can be relied upon by many leaders to make the workplace a desirable place.
