What do you think about the academics that claim there is no real evidenced based practice (EBP)?
While there are claims that evidenced-based practice is not real, it is but important to understand the criteria and applicability of the method prior to its application. There are cases the EBP has been proven effective in various situations and covers different disciplines. It is still our responsibility as a practitioner to use our knowledge and expertise and check against the latest suggestions from the research as a result of EBP. This practice has its advantages and disadvantages that we should consider prior to its application. Taking a deeper understanding of the depth of knowledge that EBP can provide, this supports better and well-versed practitioner and an organized processes for dissemination of the best evidence. EBP has guidelines that practitioners can apply to empower consistencies of care across all professional boundaries. Information about this practice is also available to the public, thereby, people can become included in the decision making process about their care. Also, this practice is also open for clarifications for further research .
On the other hand, EBP has its sets of limitations which practitioners must carefully look into. This is subject to various interpretations so it is important that prior to its application, practitioners should conduct professional consultations from related field experts so that there is a consideration from different angles. Also, the practitioners who intend to apply EBP must consider that this may overpower creativity on his part of expertise as he will rely on the research, evidence and results of other experts. As a result, this may affect our professional judgment so practitioners must balance its learning and application of the EBP .
