Nowadays the obesity in the United Stated has become a serious issue. In fact, 60% of the U.S population are overweight or suffer from obesity. In addition, Black and Latin populations are facing these risks more frequently than White ones. Moreover, 68 thousands U.S. adults are suffering from fatness due to low education levels or the least available sources for exercising and healthy dieting. These people also suffer from such diseases as diabetes and high blood pressure (Day, 2006).
It is very important to mention that there are several factors, which have a direct influence on the way these people live. Kristen Day mentions an important reason, why the Black population is suffering from obesity more frequently than Europeans. Taking into account this fact, we can make a conclusion that it is so because of their genetic and the composition of the body (Day, 2006).
The ideal body size of the Afro-American women is larger, that is so-called “Healthy size” and it was considered as a sign of wealthy from the ancient times. Also, another very important matter is that due to the low-income Black people are not able to buy and prepare the healthy food, they work all the time and almost have no time for physical activity (Day, 2006).
Provided that Afro-Americans and Latinos lack an access to the information regarding the physical activity, it also affects their opinion concerning the exercising and keeping fit. One more important reason for obesity is an individual factor. This means that due to the gender, race, lower income and educational level people are not able to improve their life and they are afraid to go outside for jogging because of the high level of crime (Day, 2006).
In conclusion, it is necessary to mention that obese people should be involved in the U.S active living movement. They should be encouraged not to be afraid and just simply improve their bodies, stay fit, eat healthy food only and exercising on a regular basis. Unfortunately, due to the lack of affordable pricing, good jobs and other things, Black populations and Latinos are not able to improve their lifestyle, however, the U.S. government may try to involve them in physical activities and promote bicycling, jogging and walking.
