Alcohol and Drugs have been plaguing society for many decades. People will start off having a drink on occasion, possibly at a social function. The problem is that after a while the occasional drink turns into an addiction. When it comes to treatments, there are varied ideas of what is the best treatment option for dealing with addictions.
One of the most common methods is through clinical inpatient therapy. It removes all temptation for the people that are suffering from the addiction. They will be kept in a hospital or addiction treatment center for a specified amount of time that can range from 28 days to one year. While there, they would attend multiple group and individual therapy sessions. They learn how to live without the alcohol or drugs that they are addicted to.
With using the longer period of time, it would allow them to get use to living without the addiction. Part of the treatment should also include reintroducing them to life outside of the treatment facility. This would be done through home check and assisting them in being able to get work, while they are still inside the facility after the six month timeframe.
In some cases, there is the use of medications, as a means to overcome addiction. This is thought to be a counterproductive. A lot of people find that by taking the medication, it just displaces the addiction, because once they are off of it, their body once again craves the previous addiction. Others think that the side effects of this medication are as bad if not worse than the withdrawal from the drugs or alcohol itself.
No matter the way that addiction is treated, the most important factor is that the individual wants to stop the addictive behavior. If they choose to continue the behavior, they will no matter what treatment they have been through. The most effective method seems to be clinical inpatient treatment for periods of six months or more. By going less than six months, there would be a higher risk of the individual returning to their addiction. So, the best plan would be to keep them in a inpatient facility for at least six months or longer.
