PSYCHOLOGY
Nicholas being a three year old, he is bound to be an active child especially the fact that he is a boy, and boys are more mobile and active in comparison to girls their age. However, there are a couple of quite compelling factors as per the DSM- 5, which would definitely make the case of Nicholas one of ADHD(STAUDER 1755).
Nicholas exhibited characteristics like not being able to attend to one activity for a specific amount of time in class, which is an issue of concern since these lessons are structured and tailored to the age group the child belongs to therefore, he should be at least able to concentrate. In addition, he was not able to take turns especially when it came to playing with other kids, he always had the tendency to intrude into other children’s games and interrupt. Nicholas is also very active for a kid his age. He is unable to stay in one position for too long and always seems to be on the go. For leisure activities that required Nicholas to be silent such as drawing and coloring, he is unable to maintain silence and kept talking. Nicholas blurts out answers before questions or statements are completely made by the other speaker, and his teachers also mentioned 15 out of 20 symptoms of hyperactivity. Others symptoms he showed included immaturity, impulsivity, and over sensitivity to criticism. I believe Nicholas is too young to be placed on a drug therapy because of his age. However, behavior therapy would do fine for him.
