The greatest professional achievement I could disclose is actually having successfully graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the Rutgers University in 2001 and being able to apply all the theoretical frameworks learned from the program to my work as a finance officer. I am honored to be an active contributor to the financial sector in terms of working in close collaboration with portfolio managers, fund administrators, client service officers and demanding clients. The nature of the work therefore entails application of varied skills learned through the course and through the eight years of working experience in this field of endeavor.
A significant achievement was also noteworthy while training at State Street Bank in 2004 as a staff level employee. I started putting down notes for my own use at this new job for the purpose of imbibing a clear process on the entire bank operations. My manager then noticed how beneficial these notes were and could be used in the creation of a procedures manual to assist new employees through the orientation and transition stages. The manual was so successful that it was used as a compendium to orient and train all new employees in the organization. This manual, therefore helped improve the performance of all employees through the provision of clear guidelines which were instrumental in their job productivity and in the decision-making processes. Finally, the manual that was developed helped reduce training time for the new employees since the new recruits could browse and review relevant aspects of their job responsibilities and other concerns pertinent to the organization without the need to consult various personnel in the organization. By directly helping create procedures manual, I was able to gain a more in-depth understanding of the job and how my responsibilities impact and influence other stakeholders in the organization. I am convinced that through my ingenuity and innovative thinking, the creation of the procedures manual was definitely a concrete example of an added value to the organization.
I left the company in December 2006 and was able to gain a senior position at Bank of Mellon. I am applying back to Rutgers University to help move my career to the next level. Also, pursuing higher education would significantly assist in giving me an edge over my fellow coworkers. I am applying to the MBA program with a concentration in finance. My long term goal is for continued professional growth and development and to be more knowledgeable in applying theoretical frameworks in business administration in an increasingly global society. Today the job market has become more intensely competitive; with enhanced qualifications and competencies of candidates from various fields and disciplines. I am confident that by receiving an MBA degree that specializes in finance from Rutgers, the experience would open doors for greater opportunities to be an instrumental contributor to contemporary organizations on a global realm.
Finally, I see the prospects of pursuing higher education as a positive move towards enabling me, as a wife and mother of three, to holistically support my family’s varied needs and requirements. Likewise, by being an active member of my church (Agape House of Worship), the enhanced academic experience could be a vehicle for sharing the advanced knowledge and skills to volunteer in various endeavors. The opportunities for personal and professional growth and development by being accepted as part of the MBA program would surely be mutually beneficial not only in the short run; but more so on a longer term basis.
