I have partaken in a range of activities that I feel will assist me in becoming a successful leader in the field of pharmacy. In particular, both my role in the college Science club, and my enrolment on a leadership course have provided much welcomed skills and experience.
I recently joined the Science club at my college and have since become the College Coalition Government Representative of the organisation. As an important spokesperson for the club, I harbour a responsibility to represent it and its members in a positive manner at all times. Other duties of my post include reporting to the College Government about the activities in which the Science club has been partaking, and also inviting new members to join. This experience has taught me a great deal about the importance of communication when in a position of trust or authority. I feel these skills and knowledge are directly transferable to leadership within the pharmaceutical industry.
I have taken up the opportunity to attend the Pioneer Institute of Leadership Program in my college. I am to attend a total of six sessions and, once successfully completed, I will be awarded a certificate in the leadership program. So far, I have attended the first session and have already gained a vast amount of knowledge about leadership which will help me to become a better leader in the field of pharmacy. I am very much looking forward to the rest of the sessions and to completing the course.
I believe that an effective leader needs to have a clear vision of what needs to be achieved. Only if a leader has this will they be able to lead and motivate others to work together in achieving the same goals. My experiences in the science club and on the leadership course have already helped me to become a better leader, and I look forward to putting my skills into practice in pharmacy.
