Every time I reflect on the words of E. E. Cummings, I realize that I have been on the same career development in my whole life. Cummings indicates that “To be nobody but yourself, in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else, means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting”. These words reflect the story of my life in curriculum and career development.
Looking back, in precedent years, my family adopted five orphans, all with different backgrounds, from Russia. These children needed to learn on how to socialize, grow academically and adapt to a new way of life. They had no one to look up to and their controversy led me into making a crucial decision; not to be selfish with my status and accord them the socialism and adaptation that they required. I gave them guidance, and proper leadership on how to face the challenges that come in relation to adapting to new society, and ways of life. Apart from acting as their strength, I also learnt their diverse ways of living and how to cope with cultural and belief differences without undermining their value.
The orphans are currently pursuing their education, in different fields, with improved lifestyles and are comfortable with the new culture. This experience led me to a realization of my potential in leadership capabilities. Looking at those children become successful in life brings an urge for me to pursue a career that involves management and leadership, and bringing up a change that society as well as the country needs for development. Dealing with people with diversities in culture, beliefs and values, brings up a challenge related to risking ones values. This is in the sense that one might overlook his or her own believes in an attempt to make the other party feel at ease and learn on a new culture.
Pursuing this course, Risk Management and Insurance, would act as a guarantee on how to cope with such challenges. It will be enforcement to my leadership abilities as well as a developer of risk awareness and maintenance. I have a dedication, from my undergraduate years, in preparation for not only experimental leadership, like in my past experience, but in improving leadership styles especially on the insurance sector, that is full of risks. Graduating in this course would, therefore, mean that my ambitions as well as interests are reached. I already possess the energy and passion required by this course in becoming a leader in a risk adverse environment and my determination is coming up with sustainable solutions to the risks associated with the insurance background.
Mastering in Risk Management and Insurance will act as a foundation in developing a perspective that involves significant involvement in formulation of policy issues that many societies in the country lack. It will act as an incentive in resolving key issues that make societies lag behind. It will act as an intervention between my abilities and a realization of my original goal in leadership. It will boost my flexibility in making sustainable solutions and providing societal remedies that lead to growth. It will work on my research programs, and improve on my commitment, optimism, intellectual excellence and enthusiasm towards a better society and economy. It will add towards my progress in becoming a legendary leader who impacted the society and made a sustainable change in resolving and handling matters. This is the course I need to realize my dreams.
