In response to your post on the structure, purposes and roles of hospital emergency management committees (EMCs), I do agree that the members should be from diverse cultures and familiar with hospital emergency operations. When it comes to the roles, I have also found that collaboration and interaction with local communities and government agencies at all levels to be of paramount importance when conducting disaster planning and emergency preparedness activities. However, I think the roles and responsibilities that EMC have are best summed up by in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital Emergency Management Committee objectives found at UAB.edu (2016). First, EMCs have the role of identifying potential threats, hazards, and other adverse events, and assess their effects on the health services provided by a hospital. Second, they should provide a structure to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from events and emergencies that may affect the hospital. Third, EMCs should adopt a general emergency management approach for all hazards to deal with a wide range of emergency events no matter the cause. Finally, EMCs need to assess, implement and appropriately review all emergency response and planning documents to ensure all emergency preparedness angles are covered. While this short list is in no way exhaustive or as detailed as your discussion post, I do believe it provides a general insight on the roles and responsibilities of EMCs.
